Kris Kristoferson on Bush
"He's just the hood ornament. It's the machine under him that's really scary. What bothers me about all of this is that none of them ever served in the military. Do I feel a conflict? I have been booed in Texas, but I still love Texas."

3. Rhodes scholar, Army helicopter pilot, Golden Gloves boxer...
Kris Kristofferson accomplishes more in just the first few minutes out of bed every morning than the idiot chimp will accomplish in his entire lifetime.

16. "Sunday Morning..." is my favorite Johnny Cash song
Absolutely beautiful song by Mr. Kristofferson, performed perfectly by the Man in Black. I still weep when I hear him sing it.

10. He's a big part of why "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" is such an interesting film...
...and he was very close to Sam Peckinpah.

17. Yep. Supposedly he hand-delivered a song to Johnny Cash...
by landing a helicopter in Cash's backyard. Really got his attention.

I don't know if that's a country urban legend, but it's a story that's been long told and it wouldn't surprise me if he did.

7. Yet, to the rightwing, Bush IS
"a fighter pilot in 'Nam" (as reported by Faux News when Bush landed on the carrier with the "Mission Accomplished" banner), a CEO, a cowboy, a "real man", and a Christian.
Nevermind that he fulfills those labels about as well as he fulfilled his Guard service.

9. He also "donated" his time and songwriting skills to making this film too...
Edited on Fri Nov-03-06 01:12 PM by calipendence
... as much as his actors' union would allow him to donate...

This by the way is Kristoferson from his military days...

"Brats: Our Journey Home" is a film about military brats (he grew up one too). As someone who lived overseas as a "brat" (though not a military brat), it really rings home with me, and I got to know the woman who directed it when she showed it to a reunion I went to a year or so ago, and also know one of the producers, who was a brat in the same place I was in Turkey.

http://www.bratsourjourneyhome.com/

It really is a good film to show to your military friends, as those involved are good hearted Dems, even though the film isn't partisan in any way and needs to be such to keep it's non-profit status. It does present the military and does note interesting things that we can relate to like:

1) It was one of the first places for Americans to feel TRUELY integrated, where different races and religions were all forced to live and work together, well before the Civil Rights Act reforms of the 60's. I think living out there really helps give kids growing up overseas a healthy attitude to avoid things like racism or other forms of prejudice.
2) It is in a way a lot more socialist than our lives here, with subsidize housing, PX, etc. that take care of many of folks' needs. Military folks don't think of that sometimes until you remind them of it.
3) Goes in deeply how living a "brats" life affects family life too, which I think most people can identify with.

It also talks about the difficulties faced by those living there too. Kristoferson is great in narrating this, and interviews folks like Norman Schwarzkopf, too. If you all are trying to "convert" military types where you are, you might want to try and view this film with them sometime.

...this has been a helluva day for the progressives! Who'd call Cool Hand Luke soft on any issue? Who would question the toughness of the bad-ass biker in "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia?

20. Georgie B was 49 when he turned 21
Fooling with some foolish things he couldve left alone
But he had to try to satisfy a thirst he couldnt name
Driven towards the darkness by the devil in his veins
All around the schoolroom, reading My Pet Goat
Gettin by on gettin high on pretzels,

Busy goin his own way and speakin his own words
Facin and forgettin every warnin that he heard
Makin enemies in any crazy place he could

somebody finish this filk since I'm too wasted to continue...
