http://defconblog.org/2006/11/haggard-resigns/Haggard has long been a rising star within the leadership of the religious right; he is a close confidant of James Dobson and a fervent opponent of same-sex marriage. In 2005 Time Magazine named him one of the 25 most influential evangelicals in the country, and for the last several years he has enjoyed weekly calls with the White House.
Dobson, Haggard, and the religious right have built an empire on hatred and fear; most notably exploiting anti-gay sentiments to raise money, enroll members, and ultimately gain the incredible political influence they enjoy today.
The revelations involving Rev. Haggard are the epitome of the hypocrisy that has come to define the religious right.
