Three U.S. soldiers, 4 Marines killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Three U.S. soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad and four Marines were killed in "enemy action" in Iraq's western Anbar province on Thursday, the U.S. military said on Friday.

The four Marines died in two separate incidents in Anbar but the military gave no further details.

The military also announced early on Friday that a soldier had died in a non-combat related incident north of Baghdad.

3. Me confused.
Is it seven TOTAL on Thursday? Why isn't a Marine called a soldier?

Or is it 8 total with the non-combat death, or is he included in the 7?

I am sure it sucks to write a version of this article every day for four years, but this isn't terribly clear.

7. Look here
http://icasualties.org they are up to date on everything. A Marine is attached to the Navy, they are more or less a shock troop, first into an area then the army comes behind , they are soldiers in the generic sense though.

5. 7 already this month?
Yeesh. As for the "non-combat related incident", hopefully it wasn't self-inflicted.

8. Why do they always differentiate between a soldier and a marine?

9. Because a Marine is not a soldier
Soldier = US Army. Marines are Marines, a branch in the department of the Navy (though they rarely admit it). No Marine likes being called a soldier.
