Vice President Dick Cheney will welcome home Fort Carson soldiers during a campaign swing through Colorado Springs Friday, the Army announced today.

Cheney will speak at 1:15 p.m. at Butts Army Airfield in an event that’s open to active-duty troops and military retirees with proper identification. Cheney’s visit comes as thousands of soldiers in Fort Carson’s 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team return to Colorado Springs from a year of duty in Iraq.

Later in the evening, Cheney is headlining an invitation-only Republican campaign rally at The Broadmoor.
