Hacking Democracy - my mom finally gets it
Ive been trying to explain Diebold et al to my mom for 6 years, but she never really grasped it - constantly saying it would take a MASSIVE conspiracy, on par with the Kennedy Assassination to pull it off. I tried to explain that it wouldn't; a few well placed minus votes, a few changes here and there could tilt the whole thing. She didn't believe me when I said something went horribly wrong in Ohio in 04, she actually said Kerry lost, you can't keep blaming everyone else! ::horrified::

After watching HBO's Hacking Democracy, she gets it - finally gets it. Is compl. sickened, shocked and angry over what she saw and I feel such a sense of satisfaction that she gets it now.

The point? None, really. Except that it was an excellent program and many of my friends are outraged today, and I thank HBO for it. As I had been called crazy, a conspiracy nut and delusional for a few years now.

1. I'm hoping I can get my hubby to sit and watch it with me
No doubt he's going to trash all over it. But still...

3. I wish HBO would lend the program to a non-premium...
cable station or, better yet, a network for broadcast before the election.

This is "old news" for me, also. I'm frustrated that the story had been ignored until a couple of weeks ago and now that it is being exposed, the fact that the Diebold favored (if not actually "elected") Bush is downplayed.

(BTW, I don't get HBO, so I didn't see the report.)

11. I was back and forth about watching...
On one hand saying I NEED to see this, albeit something we pretty much knew already. Then on the other, saying, will this make my blood pressure spurt out of my ears, and cause me to do some serious damage in my house? I watched and felt myself sinking into that oh very dangerous deadly quiet mode, just sitting there, silently brewing, until I realized my nails were digging into my palms. Mainly because of this gigantic 3000 lb white elephant in the middle of the collective citizenry, and no one sees it, does anything about it, talks about it, nothing. The whole country has been hijacked by these bozos, and either people are too stupid, lazy, indifferent or drunk to notice. As my mom said last night, no wonder Pukes were banging on the doors and walls, chanting, causing a riot in FL when FL was TRYING to recount. They were told to stop the recount at all costs. It's quite obvious why now. Think how history would be different. They keep counting, get Gore ahead by even ONE vote.

of the US, has that effect on people.

20. I imagine it was hard to watch!
Everytime it was mentioned on a news program, I said to my kids, "SEE! That's what I've been talking about for the last few years!!!"

I must admit to being suspicious about why corporate media is paying attention to this NOW. Is this a set-up? If the Rethugs lose their majority, will THEY claim it's the fault of "Lib-rulhs" hacking the machines?

6. when I think how ugly it was here the night Kerry "lost". There were a few
amazing DU'ers who tried to throw out the info about election fraud that night.

My cup is raised to them and those who dog this issue like Bradblog.

7. Right here!
2 years ago this month I annoyed many a friend I'm sure by emailing all the evidence being accumulated. Article after article I sent, knowing that they probably weren't even reading them and probably thinking it was just an emotional reaction to "losing". I work with databases and computer networking so my beliefs were fueled by that knowledge. Yet, it is beyond gratifying to see my previous alegedly radical and improbable thoughts now on display on mainstream HBO.

People's eyes glaze over when you try to explain it, even if they are really trying to get it. Thank god people made it in an easily digestible and mass consumed format.

I just wish it came out sooner. It may be too late now. I hope that I am wrong.

13. oh hell yeah...
People's eyes glaze over when you try to explain it

I get that A L L T H E T I M E

Sore loser. Remember Sore Loserman?

But of course. Let's reverse it.

The Pukes would never ever ever give up in a thousand lifetimes pounding it home that Gore stole the election.

The Pukes that caused a riot when the recount was going on. How was THAT allowed? Machines tallying negative votes for Gore?

I gotta say though I never did quite 'get' why Kerry gave up so easily. Especially after the revelation (which Im sorry to say I did not know) that he knew there was something askew in NM, with optical scanner counting ALL votes for *. Never mind Ohio.

18. the glazed eye..
That's precisely why republicans have been getting away with this shit for so long. It's so much easier to use "flip-flop", and other cutesy slogans than it is to lay out FACTS and FIGURES to prove what we have known all along.. They count on the laziness of most people..

23. I sent out a lot of articles and e-mails, also,....
with a strong sense of urgency that the voting maching fraud needed to be dealt with immediately. Why just settle for another four years of Bushs**t?

Maybe people were just too tired and demoralized to deal with it. Or unable to imagine that level of corruption.

31. People need to concoct conspiracy theories to fuel their emotional
need for some kind of order in the universe. In reality, shit just happens.

The ex-felons database makes some mistakes, and 50,000 Dem voters are
disqualified in Florida--shit happens and Bush wins.

The vote count is inaccurate in FL so the Supreme Court has to step in and
decide the issue--shit happens and Bush wins.

Warnings from 13 countries, 3 FBI offices, and the CIA are ignored and 9/11
happens--shit happens and Bush wins.

We invade Afghganistan and the place turns into an opium farm--shit happens
and Bush wins.

Diebold machines are installed in Georgia in 2002 and in the weeks before
the election illegal software is installed and then there's a stunning
upset Republican victory and Max Cleland is out of office--shit happens and
Bush wins.

Paul Wellstone's plane crashes in MN amid reports of peculiar electronic
disruptions to cell phones and garage door openers. The FBI seizes control
of the crash scene so fast they must have left Minneapolis before Wellstone's
plane did--shit happens and Bush wins.

Bush invades Iraq and all his cronies get multi-billion dollar no-bid no-execute
contracts, and the public treasury is bankrupted so Grover Norquist can indulge
his ambition to drown the government in his bathtub--shit happens and Bush wins.

The universe is chaotic, and anybody who thinks angels are flying around arranging
things to Bush's advantage just aren't tough-minded enough to face reality.
:sarcasm:

5. The presentation was excellent.
It's hard for me to follow written words alone - I tend to be more visually oriented. Watching the show, it all came together.

As this story grows (and it will!), remember that we were the ones on the cutting edge of the story. We knew, we did the work, we all came together and shared what we had with others. Democracy in action.

I'm betting a whole lot of people watched it, and it will play again before the election, but I am curious as to what the numbers might be.

25. yes! THAT'S the word! VINDICATION!
After I been blathering like a psychotic for 6 years, being called everything from a sore loser to insane to mentally disturbed, it was brilliant to see it all laid out wherein ANYONE with basic .exe knowledge could do it. One did not have to be a computer nerd or Bill Gates to do it. It was as simple as the memory card. I think THAT was the thing that sent me over the edge. How utterly simple it was, leaving no trace anyone had done anything. I mean, even my old beat up PC will record a change in a doc, but these highly *cough* sophisticated machines leave no trace of tampering?

And as an image in this thread shows, how come ATM machines give you a receipt? But it seems to be out of the realm or mentality of these 'vendors' to produce a paper trail???

And why is it that Diebold are huge Puke donators? And is it a coincidence that Ken Blackwell is a male carbon copy of Katherine Harris? And the supervisor of elections or whomever he was (Bennett) in that county in OH - begins with C? Ca something, sorry cannot remember right now is ALSO the county chair of the Pukes?

COME ON! :tinfoilhat:

 OVER
