Battlestar's Last Twist of the Knife Tonight
Edited on Fri Nov-03-06 03:02 PM by CorpGovActivist
This is the last episode of Battlestar before the mid-terms.

What "Trojan Horse" progressive messages will the (brilliant) writers of the show deliver tonight?

I'm guessing they're accutely aware of the political calendar, and of their last chance to deliver such messages before Tuesday.

1. Brilliant writers indeed
I don't know where they will go, but I'm looking forward to finding out. It's the only Tee Vee show I watch besides Countdown w/ KO.

4. TiVo Is the Political Junkie's Best Friend ...
... power watching, in short bursts after long days, has become the norm around here.

14. Lots of multiple-TiVo households now...
... which helps to explain some of the good new programming this fall, I surmise. Watch one thing live, record the other.

. . . is the program available online anyplace?

3. It'll be online through some bittorrent sites I'm sure
But it'll probably be a couple hours after the show airs (due to encoding time and whatnot).

7. iTunes For .99 An Episode.
Kinda expensive but it beats buying a TV and DVD player. The producers of the show are also rewarded for their creations brilliance.

10. You'll probably want to watch older episodes first.
The last few episodes would be a bit confusing without them.

Not that precisely, anyway.

23. Programming Is Pretty Sophisticated...
... like "editorial calendars" at monthly magazines that might hit the shelves "just in time" for the November mid-terms, "programming calendars" are shared with the writers, so they know which episode matrices to which airdate.

6. I can't think of any "brilliant messages" to come up with...
Edited on Fri Nov-03-06 03:42 PM by Bornaginhooligan
in comparison to the last few episodes.

You know, there is a danger of stretching the plot to thin in order to make analogies to current events.

If I were to catch a rerun twenty years from now, I wouldn't want to think "oh Lord, it's their 2006 election episode."

12. Why do they always say "fracking"?
Damn them. I hate that. Either give up swearing or just cuss. That "fracking" stuff every other sentence drives me nuts.

Otherwise, I like the series.

15. Very subversive and sneaky
Knowing the censors are actually being annoyed more than me makes it worthwhile, I guess.

I'm used to Deadwood's unadulterated cussing and only discovered Battlestar G. on on-demand a month or so ago. Had a lot of episodes to catch up on.

Maybe I am too old to watch that channel? They must think the audience demographic is the same 8-12 crowd Disney attracts! Why else insult them with the silly substitutions?

33. Felgercarb! Now that's funny
Okay, now I remember the original show and why I thought one of the characters (Richard Hatch) looked familiar albeit older and more wrinkled. Damn, that was back in the 70s. Talk about a loyal following! Wow.

I really cracked up at how much the episodes I watched sounding like our current political situation. The weird stuff with the secret tribunal last week really sounded all too familiar.

As for Hatch - it took him a lot longer than Dirk Benedict (Starbuck, turned Faceman for the A-Team) to resurface!

Given Hatch's own upcoming production schedule, I wonder how much more of Zarek we'll be seeing?

They updated, however, because nobody on the original series said, "Mother-Fracker"! or "Go Frac Yourself!".

Being a major nerd, I love it.

Especially when my favorite Riot Girl, Katie Sackhoff uses it.

41. I disagree. I think it adds a since of realism in this way:
The FCC means that you can't have what I would consider to be realistic dialog among pilots and military peoples, but the frack / fracking, which is obviously an FCC-acceptable substitute for fuck gives the show a little bit more authenticity in my view. The thing I like about BSG is that it goes for that gritty realism factor that I've really never seen done before this well in sci-fi television, and I love it.

That's how I'm watching the series. Though, I'm still in the first half of Season One. If it's possible to hire them at your local video shop, start from the beginning with the mini-series.

and I thought it was a good show. Then last week I realized that the opening song is a westerninzed version of the hindu devotional called the Gayatri Mantra, and now I love it.

O nourishing Sun, solitary traveler, controller, source of life for all creatures, spread your light and subdue your dazzling splendor so that I may see your blessed Self. Even that very Self am I!
