I didn't realize she was from Utah. A local just sent me this:

To: Editor, Salt Lake City Tribune ; Letters to editor Dept.

I trust your paper is going to cover the death of Alyssa Peterson in more detail?

This sad incident should awaken the Mormon Community to reevaluate their support of the Bush Administration. By lack of truthfulness and poor choice of those from whom he seeks council, President Bush is personally responsible for the torture techniques used and tolerated by CIA and our military. This downward spiral of moral values started with Bush's acceptance of counsel from Alberto Gonzales saying that the Geneva Convention Agreements were no long valid.

Now we have the death of Alyssa Peterson. After an 18 month mission in the Netherlands Alyssa trained in Arabic and chose to serve as an interpreter in Iraq. She apparently took her own life after seeing this corrupt interrogation behavior and, reflecting over what she knew to be right and wrong, chose to remove herself from the scene and this life. In my view, she chose to die for her beliefs knowing there was little or nothing she could do about the status quo.

An active LDS and former Republican, I feel we must make changes in Washington.

WAKE UP! Alyssa could have been your sister, or sweetheart!

Vote on Tuesday! MAKE A CHANGE.

1. Did she?
Did she really?

What a wonderful, brave young woman.
