What can a Democrat do to shift the spotlight off Saddam on Sunday? |
|
If the roles were reversed the Repuke strategists would have a counter occurence. Give me your plan of an "event" to negate the Sadam verdict. (Remember, the Dem can't be caught doing it on purpose and it can't reflect badly on the Democratic Party.)

6. Why would we want to distract from Iraq? |
|
Iraq, the quagmire. Irag, the civil war. Iraq, the hotbed of terror.
Just like the RW screaming about Kerry this week played into the Dem hand (or at worst, was a null), Sadam cannot help Repukes at this time. It's too late for them to put together any meaningful response. They've painted themselves into an ideological corner and they can't get out of it.
The only thing that they can say is, "We got Saddam!!!" which will only punctuate two things.
1. They did *NOT* get OBL. 2. Iraq is still a quagmire where thousands of US soldiers have died and injured.
The Repukes have nothing left but to ride this thing out.

9. It won't be Sunday here, but Monday. I do agree the Dems should demand a |
|
rebuttal to any time Shrub gets though. They also better get someone who is very elloquent this time! There are a lot of Dems I like, and who do a good job, but can't speak worth a sh*t! This time, they really shouldn't risk screwing up the time they are given!

10. Expected, obvious timing, so no bounce at all, might hurt GOP.... |
|
Everyone knows he will be convicted and sentenced to death. Big deal.
Everyone knows this is being timed for domestic political reasons by the White House, which will elicit tremendous cynicism amongst the populace. This will look so overtly political in timing that the situation will, in the minds of the public, automatically and involuntarily highlight the void in the legitimate arsenal that can be employed by the GOP in this election. Most of the public will say to themselves "They are having to hang their hat on this? Obviously, they have nothing else to run on." Plus, it will be a reminder, subliminal at least, and most likely overt, of the mess in Iraq.
The great hullabaloo raised by the GOP regarding the Kerry comments did the exact same thing, and not only did not help the GOP, it hurt them. It highlighted the void in their arsenal of real arguments, and reminded them of the Iraq mess.
If they had something more, they would not have needed to glom onto the Kerry situation, and they would not need to orchestrate the Saddam conviction/sentencing dog and pony show. All of this is obvious to even the dumbest of voters.

11. Do you think anybody will really care? Every poll I see says "Taking Out |

Saddam Was Not Worth It.' The only people that think it was are the hardcore delusional wing of the Republican party. And they may be too obsessed with the Meth Fueled Minister.

Most Americans believe that fuckface had something to do with drastic decrease in gas prices, that's why the wingnuts avoided the topic. And the same thing will happen here. That the fucking imbecile who proclaimed loudly how the Democrats politicize the war is doing the exact same thing, in fucking spades.
What's happening here is obvious, and everyone will know it.
This will backfire in their faces.

13. Keep it on Saddam. Let's remember that Bush got his man... and lost 2800 because of it. |
|
Let the world remember this weekend that every week hundreds are being slaughtered in Iraq because the impetuous manchild in the White House couldn't wait for the weapons inspectors to "find" the WMDs that weren't there. Remind voters that Bush sacrificed almost 3000 American troops for an oil grab. All reminders about Iraq are for the good of the country--even when it hurts.

17. I think it won't distract. If he is sentenced to death, Iraq will |

blow up in a blood orgy. It's going to get real ugly real fast.
I don't want that to happen, but it could.
