6. I'd rather see him as VP, SecDef, or SecState first.
Have him get some national experience, then run (with a record) as Prez.

28. Innoculation...
Edited on Fri Nov-03-06 07:06 PM by CorpGovActivist
... I'm well-versed in his record of accomplishment. But there *is* a viable argument to make that:

1. Since his retirement, he could have already served one full term as a Governor, and be toward the end of a second, by '08.

2. Military leaders are too used to being saluted, without the give-and-take involved in governing with a legislative body.

I'm not saying I subscribe to it, but I am saying that you can darn well be prepared to see this basic argument (and variants thereof) in '08, if he runs again. He had - and missed - an opportunity to innoculate himself from those arguments. That will create a little bit of a headwind.

30. We can counter by stating that chickenhawks are too used to
starting wars that they can't finish!

It can also be stated that the last General who was President for two terms, Einsenhower, warned us about the dangers of the MIC....and it will take someone like Wes Clark to run, while putting to rest once and for all, the incredible lie that "Dems are weak on National Security" so that the American people can get to the discussion on what to do FOR The American people.

Name me someone in either party who will be willing, because they will have nothing to prove (Lookee, I'm tough on Defense so vote for me) to look at our Defense Budget and make the cuts that should be made......? Like Clark said, The defense budget needs to be on the table too!

Remarkable how Democrats will support a woman who was married to a President but who herself has no Foreign policy experience but some office sessions; an African-American Freshman Senator with no National Security Experience; A one term former senator who led from the rear on Iraq when he co-sponsored the IWR (the Bush-Lieberman blank check one) and realized his error on life and death issues 3 years later....all during the time that we are at war that civilians started....But somehow a Southern retired oxford educated Rhodes scholar philosophy teaching almost became a phisicist War hero General at this time would be inappropriate. I, for one, disagree with that premise.

Why do the GOP and their corporate media continue to tout folks like McCain, Guiliani and even Rice for their side? Hel-LOoooo?

But till after 2006.....I ain't gonna talk about this stuff anymore! promise! :)

P.S. In my line of work, we do something called a "black hat analysis" (which made Blackhatjack an immediate kindred spirit, since I got the meaning). It essentially entails one person playing devil's advocate for the other side.

21. Site says this....under staff and advisors!

http://www.votevets.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=45
General Wesley K. Clark (US Army, ret), Board of Advisors:
General Clark was born in Illinois and moved Little Rock, Arkansas with his mother after his father died. He graduated as valedictorian of his high school; was first in his class at West Point ('66); and attended Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. As a company commander in Vietnam he was shot four times and was awarded the Silver Star. He was promoted through the ranks to serve as the the Commanding General for the U.S. Southern Command, then as Director for Strategic Plans for the Joint Chief of Staff. Finally, he was promoted to be the NATO Supreme Allied Commander where he led airstrikes to end the genocide in the Balkans without losing a single soldier in combat. In addition to his Silver Star, General Clark earned the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Service Medal, and our nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Wes Clark wrote two books, Waging Modern Wars and Winning Modern Wars. He has been a commentator for CNN and Fox News Channel and in 2004 he sought the Democratic nomination for President in 2004, winning the Oklahoma primary

27. They have been working hard.....VoteVets.org!
Don't know if there is anything else in the works, but.....!

In an ad by Votevets.org, an independent Democratic group, a soldier shoots an AK-47 rifle at two dummies. One is clad in a standard flak jacket, the other in the modern body armor that the ad accuses the GOP Congress of not funding. The dummy in the flak jacket is riddled with bullets; the other is clean.

Another ad by the group, now running in four congressional districts, shows Iraq veteran Tomas Young in a wheelchair at his kitchen table. Young names the Republican incumbent and points out that the lawmaker voted to raise his own pay, but also to cut military health benefits. "That may make sense from where he sits in Congress, but not from where I'm sitting," Young says.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/28/AR2006102800779.html
-------
Jeremy Broussard, a co-founder of VoteVets.Org and law student at Howard University in Washington, D.C., said Thursday that his group chose to make ads against congressmen that were in tight races. That all four current ads are against Republicans, Broussard said, is coincidental.

Broussard pointed out that the educational arm of his group ran ads critical of Sen. Joe Lieberman, a Democrat from Connecticut, and the political action committee also endorsed an Indiana Republican, Sam Schultz, for Congress.

"We can't have politicians in office who are saying one thing about how proud they are of our men and women going off to war, and then voting against veterans," said Broussard.

Virginia Sen. George Allen, is the target of an ad by a group called VoteVets.org accusing him of voting against the equipment.

All of these organizations have the support of Wes Clark. The September Group (Ickes, Soros, and labor) put out the wonderful ad with the people asking the bush questions. They will also be doing GOTV. Wes Clark has been working very hard for and with us, although it is under the radar.
