...if you don't watch out it will kick your ass and never mind about the names.
Just lately, we've been watching the hypocritical, holier-than-thou Powers That Be going down like blades of grass under a riding mower.
What's bringing them down? Well, one thing and another, but the root cause is that old plot device that screws up all your tragic heroes...
HUBRIShttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubris"In its modern usage, hubris denotes overconfident pride and arrogance; it is often associated with a lack of knowledge, interest in, and exploration of history, combined with a lack of humility. An accusation of hubris often implies that suffering or punishment will follow, similar to the occasional pairing of hubris and Nemesis in the Greek world and the proverb "pride goes before a fall" is thought to sum up the modern definition of hubris.Well! We've seen a bit of that going around, haven't we...but wait, there's more.
"Aristotle defined hubris as follows:
Hubris consists in doing or saying things that cause shame to the victim, not in order that anything may happen to you, nor because anything has happened to you, but merely for your own gratification. Hubris is not the requital of past injuries; this is revenge. As for the pleasure in hubris, its cause is this: men think that by ill-treating others they make their own
superiority the greater." Hmmm...think I've seen that one creeping around too.
"Yes, badgerpup...what's your point?"
Well, for the last six mortal years, we've been spat upon, denigrated, vilified, denied, etc. by those in power. They have gutted our country and Constitution, treating the one like a cash cow, and the other like a piece of toilet paper. They've disguised their agenda by wrapping themselves in the flag and waving the bible and screaming words like patriot, and terrorism...but now, the illusion is starting to fade and it's all falling apart.
MORE AND MORE OF US ARE SEEING YOU FOR WHAT YOU ARE."Yes, badgerpup...and your POINT???
In 2008, the Big Seats are up for grabs.
When it's time to vote, I want to be able to look at
what's been accomplished. I want to look back on the seven-league strides we've made on re-establishing our Constitution, and our middle class, and what we've done about health care. I want to see some REAL resolution with Iraq, and not to have worry that if Mr. 'I-wanna-be-a-war-President-even-if-I-hafta-start-it-myself' Bush gets another wild hair, there won't be any adults in charge to take away the keys to the missiles.
In short, I don't want 2008 to roll around and the Democrats and Democratic party find themselves waking up from a massive schadenfreude hangover...with nothing accomplished, and no reason to believe that we're any better equipped...or worthy...to be in charge of the country than the Repubs.
That's my point.
