Media References to Ted Haggard as "Conservative" Ignore Haggard's Work Promoting the Global Warming Theory
Posted by Amy Ridenour on November 4, 2006 - 00:22.

In light of the recent scandlous allegations regarding evangelical leader Rev. Ted Haggard, many news outlets have been referring to Haggard as a "conservative." Only a small number are mentioning that Haggard also sees himself as a global warming activist -- and definitely not one of the "skeptic" variety.

Some liberal activists seem to be delighted at the prospect of Haggard's possible professional suicide, but liberals promoting the global warming theory know better. Temporarily at least, they've lost a major -- and perhaps irreplaceable -- ally.

I've collected a few citations for the benefit of those who were unaware of the direction of Rev. Haggard's environmental activism:

1. Uh, saying the Rapture is coming is not supporting the Global Warming Theory
Then again, conservatives also tried to act like Christie Fraud Whitman's stance on abortion made her a great "bi-partisan" choice by Bush for head of the EPA.

2. Oh really?
I know when I think of the fighters against pollution and destruction of the ozone layer, I automatically think Haggard, Evangelicals, The 700 Club and the FOF. Doesn't everyone? :sarcasm:

Please Amy, think of a career change if this is the best you can do.....

7. Um, everybody who isn't on Chevron's payroll accepts global warming.
Just like evolution, there is NO "left-right", "scientific debate" on the matter. There's reality, then there's denial.

9. Unfortunately, many (most) Americans are in denial, then

Many Americans perceive science as The Enemy. Science requires knowledge and thinking and stuff, and that's just so dang HARD. Besides, global warming might mean that I couldn't drive my gas-hog as much.

Remeber this famous (paraphrased) story? An advisor came to Adlai Stevenson and said "We've got the intellectual vote locked up." Adlai looked at him and said, "Now if we can convince some of the other 95% of Americans, we'll be alright."

11. Nevernose, I hear this all the time (never directly).....
....But the one question I'd like to ask someone if and when I do, is "what's in your medicine cabinet? Because those pills you're taking are only possible because of science. You know -- The Enemy."

Everything around us in this modern society we've created is based upon scientific principles. They're like the RightWingNut Evangelicals who cherry-pick from the bible as it suits them and their cause. And their prejudices.

So if they are truly antithetical towards science, then they need to find themselves a cave to live in, and at go back to hunting and gathering.

12. Yeah, yeah- and Hitler was a left winger. And Hussein was a left-winger.
Every screwed up person HAS to be a liberal, because conservatives are, by definition, pure. So if you aren't pure, you're a liberal.

I don't know how these people can think about their ideology for more than 3 minutes without noticing it's self-contradictions and logical fallacies. I really don't.
