I don't want to see Saddam Hussein executed...
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 01:53 AM by hlthe2b
I know this is controversial, so let me feebly do my best to explain.

While I am anti-death penalty, this is NOT the reason.

Do I believe Hussein is guilty of horrendous crimes against his own people? yes...

Is it because of related issues with this administration and my animosity towards Bush* et al? No... though I certainly do have major issues with Bush*...

Is it because I don't believe he got any semblance of a real/"fair" trial? Well, I certainly don't believe this was anything other than a "show" trial, but this is really not it either.

So...
Why? Well, I can not put my finger totally on top of it, but it feels as though I hold the keys to Pandora's box. I know that once opened, all hell may break loose, but I am helpless to do much about it. But, somehow--deep in my core, I know... Nothing, absolutely NOTHING good will come of the execution of Saddam Hussein. Evil begets evil... unfortunately we never learn....

1. Pandora's box was opened in March, 2003.
And the lid won't be going back on. But you're right, no good can come of this for the people of Iraq.

3. Turn him over to The Hague
Let them give him a real trial. After that, which he almost certainly will be found guilty, he can be locked up for life.

4. Saddam's trial was instigated and controlled by us
What right do we have to color the trial of another country's leader?

Maybe the Arab nations will be ruling W as a war crimial.

5. Killing him (probably on nat'l TV too, no less) would be the stupidest thing this admin could do
I mean, after all the other stupid things they've done.

Just imagine the psychological aspect of killing the former leader (even if he was a dictator) of a country we've invaded and continue to occupy. Then parading it around in a gold frame like his two sons.

If that doesn't psychologically make the Iraqis feel the boot of the Americans on their necks, I don't know what does (except for the literal boot on the neck, which we have already done and committed to photographs).

It is dumb, dumb, dumb - which only convinces me it is EXACTLY what these morons will do.

8. A pay-per-view Saddam-Dubya cagefight would raise millions
for the victims of Iraqi violence.
