It's about TIME:
A quick review of some high points in the November 6, 2006 edition of Time: the cover story is called, "The Lone Ranger." It describes Bush as "faltering in Iraq. He's out of favor with his own party. He's increasingly isolated."

It says that this election is "all about George W. Bush and the world he's created." It tells of how republican candidates not only want to separate themselves from the administration's policies, but how they want to avoid being associated with Bush as an individual.

But the most important part is a little section called "Bush's New Rolodex." It lists five people that will be playing important roles in the next two years. Let's look closer:

Nancy Pelosi: They call her the presumptive Speaker, and note she and Bush have a "chilly personal relationship." Time notes Pelosi has signaled a willingness to work with the president. I think it is safe to say that Bush will find it hard to accept that he will have to work with her.

Ike Skelton: the Missouri Congressman will become the head of the Armed Services Committee. He wants to begin bringing US troops out of Iraq this year.

Charles Rangel: likely chairman of the powerful Ways and Means Committee. Bush's tax cuts will be unlikely to remain the same.

Henry Waxman: as head of the Government Reform Committee, he will lead the investigations of wasteful spending in Iraq.

John Conyers: as chairman of the Judicial Committee, he would probably be holding hearings on the Patriot Act.

In the past year, I have had the opportunity to talk to the staff from a number of democratic members of the House of representatives about another issue that isn't reported in this issue of Time. It's about the need for the House to examine, very closely, the role of VP Cheney in the Plame scandal. I can honestly say that without exception, every person that I have spoken to has expressed interest. And each has said that it can happen if our party takes the House.

Let's add one more entry to that rolodex: the grass roots. It's about time.

5. K&R - all of the items listed should be TOP priority...
...and, when we (hopefully) win the Senate, Bush's SC nominees will HAVE to be moderate, or they'll be DOA. Also, it appears most of the state-wide races are also going blue, so our voting infrastructure will be made secure.

(The best thing for me personally, is that I can FINALLY visit Washington DC again. I LOVE that city and its rich history, but I've felt, for the last 6 years, that it's a city SO tainted by greed, corruption and just plain EVIL. No one likes to visit a sewage treatment plant).

7. Yep.
I think that democrats will be taking the Senate, and the state and local offices in a surprising number of places across the country. Then our next phase of work begins. We need to clean up that mess that you so accurately describe.

6. It's way past time IMO......
Forget about measuring the drapes, let's have that official paperwork ready so those investigations can hit the ground running.

Dust off the box of subpoenas which haven't seen much use lately, and stand by.

Even more than impeachment, I want all the crimes committed by this crowd to be brought to light. I hope (and fully expect) the truth will out.

8. The article also quotes
a White House strategist as saying they are preparing for "a cataclysmic fight to the death" over the balance of power between the House and White House when the subpoenas begin to arrive. They know what is about to begin. I would advise them to buckle their seatbelts: their ride towards justice is about to begin.

14. Tony Snow is quoted
as saying, "He told all of us, 'Put on your track shoes. We're going to run to the finish.' He's going to be aggressive on a lot of fronts. He's been calling his Cabinet secretaries and telling them, You tell me administratively everything you can do between now and the end of the presidency. I want to see your to-do list and how you expect to do it.' We're going to try to be as ambitious and bold as we can possibly be."

Track shoes and sprinting, indeed. As the great heavyweight champion Joe Louis said, "He can run but he can't hide."

15. So, would you say things are good, H20Man?...
I'm starting to lean in that direction myself! And I keep hearing this song in my head...

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you're gonna be dead
What in the world you thinking of
Laughing in the face of love
What on earth you tryin' to do
It's up to you, yeah you

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna look you right in the face
Better get yourself together darlin'
Join the human race
How in the world you gonna see
Laughin' at fools like me
Who in the hell d'you think you are
A super star
Well, right you are

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Ev'ryone come on

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you off your feet
Better recognize your brothers
Ev'ryone you meet
Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
When you're ev'rywhere
Come and get your share

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Come on and on and on on on
Yeah yeah, alright, uh huh, ah

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
On and on and on on and on

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun

18. You raise a good point
All this talk about impeaching Bush is really missing the point - the real evil genius, the real criminal, the real lowlife Dr. Destruction in this administration is Cheney. Scratch the surface and we'll see a VP more corrupt than Spiro T. Agnew.

The American public also shares our disdain for this bastard, and if the Democrats target HIM I think we could have his resignation by summer in the face of sure impeachment. Forget Bush - he's the puppet. Go after the puppetmaster.

44. Spiro Agnew was a petty crook. Dick Cheney is a Mafia don.
With all my heart I do not want Cheney to resign. I want him right there for the indictments, the subpoenas, the trials. I want him to be booted from office in the worst kind of disgrace imaginable. I want this country to remember what an impeachment is really for: high crimes and misdemeanors, not some blow-job.

Beyond that, I am trying very hard not to count our electoral chickens before they are hatched. The last three election cycles have been devastating.

22. Here's a nightmare scenario
Bush invokes his right to declare anyone an enemy combatant.
Pelosi, Skelton, Rangel, Waxman, Conyers disppear in the night.
Under the Military Commissions Act --that Congress approved--they are held indefinitely at unknown locations without benefit of legal counsel.

Bush cabal claims to know nothing about it.

The Bushies will stop at nothing to maintain power. Will they go this far?

23. Don't Scare Yourself With Worry
While it is true that * can and will do anything to not only save his hide and/or get what he wants. the tide has turned against him. Even his own widdle bitty neos are cutting and running (see Vanity Fair article posted on DU). Yet I wouldn't put anything past him. That said, wanting and perhaps even trying is not the same as succeeding. We will prevail, no matter how long it takes, no matter how many elections may be stolen, we will prevail. It is our nature and in our DNA. We have stood our ground over six, long dark years. We have not gone away, or stopped speaking out.

The hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

The question is not whether we will be extremists, but what kind of extremists we will be... The nation and the world are in dire need of creative extremists.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.

40. my favorite...and timely as well...
Martin Luther King, Jr...In his speech "Beyond Vietnam"...
"Perhaps a new spirit is rising among us. If it is, let us trace its movements, and pray that our own inner being may be sensitive to its guidance, for we are deeply in need of a new way beyond the darkness that seems so close around us."
http://www.mlkonline.net/

and...another favorite by William Shakespeare
"“There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat. And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures.”"William Shakespeare

responsiible for what republicans say or do. They will, exactly as you say, try to place blame for the failed Bush/Cheney war of aggression on others. And they will continue to lie about and smear the reputations of democrats and other progressives. That's as sure as that dogs will bark, cats will meow, and cows will moo. But democrats at the national and state level will change -- they will take the lead from the grass roots, and they will move this nation in another direction.
