(John Horton).

Spread the fear! Spread the BS! Can't have a drug that works out there that has no ties to big pharma.

2. I've never known anyone, or known _of_ anyone, who had to go to ER
for pot use or abuse. Color me skeptical.

What are they saying, exactly, TYJ?

7. They're discussing the decriminalization of MJ...
For medical (and recreational) use.

He just said there's more teens in rehab for MJ than for anything else.

Okay. No sex until thirty and no dope ever. Republicans. Sheesh.

9. I've said it once and I'll say it again: marijuana prohibition has racist roots.
In 1937, our nation's first drug czar, Harry Anslinger, testified before Congress in favor of marijuana prohibition by saying:
"Marijuana is the most violence causing drug in the history of mankind . . . Most marijuana smokers are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes."

Why on earth do we continue, based on false and racist premises, to deny people the opportunity to use marijuana for medical (and even recreational) purposes?

other competing industries. William Randolph Hearst used his newspapers to help lead the fight.

I once lived near a Nebraska town that had a thriving hemp economy, as part of its overall agricultural economy, as prior to hemp/marijuana prohibition. Sadly, many of the people who have even a childhood memory of industrial hemp being cultivated are long gone.

30. smoked marijuana, fell, went to ER for concussion
The guy has a marijuana abuse problem, and like the drunk carpenter who saws off a finger or toe, his problem has resulted in trips to the ER.

As far as I know, my friend has never been treated for his marijuana use, just the result of it.

Cause its mighty hard to get so stoned you hurt yourself and have to go to the hospital.

However, I do know a guy who choked on 3,475,283 M&M's he was trying to eat all at once one time ....

10. Aren't All Us Guys Supposed To Have Massive Boobs By Now?
I wonder how much money the liquor distribution lobby puts in GOOP pockets. Gotta love people who "are looking out for my health" who feel smoking weed is bad, but it's just fine to rot your liver and drink yourself silly.

Aren't the Repugnicans who claim they want "government out of your lives"...unless, of course, they can turn it into a wedge issue and bring in those big contributions.

But sleep tight, wanna bet that DEA goon will say there's still no definitive link between cigarette smoking and cancer.

22. Thank You For The list
Interesting...the Wine growers are mostly Democrats...(makes my trip through the Sonoma Valley a nice afterthought) while the beer and hard liquor distributors give big time to the Repugnicans.

I only know of one person who ever "OD'd" on Marijuana. My brother was an intern in an ER when some moron was brought in who tried to INJECT weed into his veins like heroin. How? I have no idea...but I'm sure it took quite some doing.

One of my best friends is a lifelong pot smoker...he moved to Oregon thanks to the NORML's efforts there. He used to own a bar and sold it after he saw several of his patrons drink themselves to death. These were his friends he served cocktails to at happy hour for years on end and saw how devestating alcohol can be on the mind, body and family. He ended up selling the bar and swearing off drinking...but he still smokes. Methinks he knows more about this topic than Office "Friendly".

12. Catapulting the propaganda......
they must keep the citizens in a constant state of fear about everything. I used to smoke a lot of pot and I mean a LOT of pot. Never in my life have I seen anyone who had to go the ER for smoking. That spans a period of 40 years now, since I started smoking weed. This vicious propaganda about a weed that has proven medicinal properties is unconscionable. I'll wager that there are an exponential number of alcohol related ER visits, but of course alcohol is legal, And taxed, heavily. The booze lobby spends millions each year buying politicians and judges but there's no marijuana lobby pouring truck-loads of cash into anyone's coffers. THAT is what the difference is.

is that everyone who has replied to this thread, up to me anyway, could probably have this guy in a complete meltdown if he/she were sitting in the NORML guys chair. I turned it off. Playing nice won't win the debate. Thanks.

17. Another lie.....
This is just another salvo of untruth against a pretty mundane weed. First it was the dangers of rising THC content, and now its increasing emergency room visits. These guys are deathly afraid of how justifiably banal pot use has become in this country.

But most folks aren't buying it. For example, Tweety did a hit-piece last week on his Sunday show about how there have been a plethora of politicians coming out about their experimentation of pot, finishing up with the Obama quote of how he inhaled "quite a bit" when he was young. Even ol' Howard Fineman piped up and said that marijuana use has "become part of our culture".

The talking heads are scared. My guess is they're starting to see the futility of prohibition, and any remaining resistance is of corporate origin.

ER visits, my ass!
