Missouri will put us over the top in the Senate |
|
I've been doing some canvassing for Claire McCaskill, and the news media doesn't know the state well enough to tell you this - but she has a secret weapon. One so powerful, so wonderful, I believe she'll win this race by a couple of points or more.
Her secret weapon is named Matt Blunt, wonder boy governor of Missouri.
Yes, Bush has a very low approval rating in Missouri - 38%, according to SurveyUSA. Believe it or not, there's an even more unpopular character here, one who threw thousands of low-income people off of Medicaid...the kind of low-income people in Southern Missouri who Talent needs to carry the state.
Baby Blunt is currently polling at 36% in his home state - lower than Bush. During my travels I've heard far more venom directed at Blunt than I have at Bush - and therein lies the genius of the McCaskill campaign. She's run ads tying Blunt to Talent's neck like a millstone contrasting Baby Blunts Medicaid cuts with Talents votes in Washington to cut Medicaid funding. This is a big issue in Missouri - one that is disgusting even middle-class families, because of the gruesome stories that the media has run outlining the suffering of the people who've been thrown out of the Medicaid system thanks to Talent/Blunt.
Our governor is hurting Talent in Missouri much more than Bush is - yet not one analyst has cited Talents Blunt problem in this election. Oh - and guess who Blunt won against in 2004? Claire McCaskill. People in Missouri are ready to make this right. Mark my words - she'll win by a comfortable margin IF we keep working and IF we get people to the polls.

I saw a lengthy clip on the news this morning of Bush and his lapdog. Talent sure doesn't look happy that he needs Bush's "help" this close to the election.

|
Its an 8 x 10 glossy with a picture of McCaskill peeking out from behind a tree. And then on the back is statement about how she is worth 30 million and she puts that money in off shore accoutns - "probably" to escape the IRS and taxes.
Not one real fact - just a stupid allegation that "probably" is a fact - just because the wealthy tend to use off shore accounts to evade taxes.
How much lower can this campaign go?

|
The latest television ad basically calls McCaskill a murderer - it uses huge type to list RAPE - ABUSE - MURDER or somesuch in nursing homes, as though she personally wielded a knife and went on a killing spree, raping and pillaging as she cut a swath through Missouri nursing homes. It's so ridiculous that it's laughable, but it shows how desperate he is. The polls are trending away from him and it shows.

would think she could sue someone over those. I read that she doesn't have any money to campaign or run ads. But that those allegations are just completely false.
And how about that Jim Morrison and Phil Kline campaign (in Kansas). I wouldn't vote for Phil Kline if he was the last person on earth - what a total sleazeball.

That ad is so disgusting with the lurid red XXX next to Shuttles' photo with the utterly false claim that she once worked for Penthouse (she worked for Omni magazine, who is owned by the same media company that owns Penthouse - apples and oranges. The local media should have refused to run that ad - it's so convincingly false). Now that I think about it, I should have donated to her campaign just to help her answer this smear.
Morrison is ahead in Kansas, so I guess Phill Kline will have to find something better to do than harass abortion clinics and try to seize their medical records.

Not to take away from your message, but I always find it amusing that it is whoever the reporter or poster is talking about that is going to make the difference.
Missouri ... no, Virginia ... no, it will be Montana ... no, maybe Ohio
In actuality it will be Howard Dean, who stuck w/ the 50 state policy rather than the few targeted campaigns despite the best efforts of Rom Emanuel and DLC types.

Hi. I also went canvassing today. Though it was primarily democrats (or undecideds) who do not often vote in this election cycle - everyone today who answered the door - again many did not, said they are definitely voting for Claire.
For once I don't want to be ashamed of my state. Missouri does have a history of electing some democrats to national office, for example Mel Carnahan. We just need enough voters in St. Louis City and County, and Kansas City to turn out to over-run the rural voters.
My big worry is the new voting machines though. I felt alot safer with the old punch card ballots, chads and all.

|
I was canvassing in rural Missouri today and there's a deep sense of outrage against this administration. I can also say that if only little old ladies were voting Tuesday, McCaskill would win by a landslide. One woman told me "You'd better believe I'm voting for Clair Tuesday -- if I'm still alive." She was a card (and probably about 90). Another woman told me she was getting her flu shot that day too, but voting first, just in case the flu shot made her sick. It was a great day for Dems here in rural MO.

Damn, I hope she wins. I had no idea that the health care in MO had gotten so bad. Well, the progressive Dems will clean that up.

If the recent sex scandals depress even 1 percent of the right-wing evangelical vote in Missouri, then McCaskill wins. But unlike Republicans, we don't need to depress voter turnout- the more likely scenario is that moderate evangelicals will pull the lever for the Democrats this time, making our victory even larger.
Keep up the good work!

44. Frankly I think that the 'Pugs will steal this one |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-05-06 11:38 AM by MadHound
I've run into too many die hard 'Pugs who are voting for McCaskill not to realize that the low popularity of both Bush and Blunt isn't having an effect. However with all of this crossover and independent support pouring into her campaign, along with the GOTV issue of Amendment 2, the polls haven't budged. They are still "locked in a dead heat." Frankly I think that is utter crap, and that this is just the setup so that all of those fine voting machines in St. Louis and KC can do their job and rip off this election for McCaskill.
A sure sign that this will have indeed been the case is if Amendment 2 passes on Tuesday while McCaskill loses. Of course they might try to steal that issue too, but that would be real blatant, in your face election theft, considering how overwhelming the support for Amendment 2 is.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still working and fighting for this election, and will most assuredly go out and get out the vote. But my cynical self tells me that this is a state which is getting set up for theft. Thankfully, judging by the legal team she is acquiring, McCaskil is thinking along these same lines, and will challenge the fraud.
It will also help McCaskill that Robin Carnahan(daughter of Mel) is the current SoS in this state, so she won't be pulling any Harris type shit during the subsequent recounts and court challenges.

It makes me wish I hadn't changed my voters registration to Mississippi so soon. However, I did talk to my sister yesterday and asked if she was voting for McCaskill. She said she was really sick of all the negative ads and in weighing them out, Talent's are far worse, so she's going for McCaskill. Also the treatment Michael J. Fox got by Limpballs also swayed her in Claires direction.
