This election isn't close

not if you measure by votes received instead of seats won. In the Senate we are likely to get well over 55% of the vote. We could get 60%. We are going to win huge in California, Flordia, and New York where all three candidates are likely to get over 70% of the vote. Only in Texas will we lose a large state by that margin. We should also have solid wins in PA, MI, and OH (in the 55/45 range.) In addition we should romp to a huge win in MA. Only MS, and IN are in a similar position for Republicans. Yet we could easily wind up with 48 or 49 seats in the Senate when all is said and done. That isn't the fault of incompetent or mealy mouthed Dems. It is the fault of a gerrymandered constitution. Small rural states and their voters are over represented in the Senate. Lott's blowout in MS will win the same number of Senate seats as Clinton's blowout in New York.

The House is a little better for us in terms of probable results. We should win the House due to the implosion of Republicans in northeastern and midwestern suburbs. We are poised to nearly wipe out Repubicans in NY, CT, and PA. We are also poised to win seats in Du Page County which for decades has been a Republican haven. We could easily see us pick up 30 seats with a mere 55/45 split in votes. But even if we somehow end up not getting a majority of seats we still will likely have won a majority of the votes like we did in 2000.

Unless we tackle redistricting we will never have our votes fully counted. That is a huge reason for Dean's 50 state strategy. We need to win those lower state level races so we can win Congress without having to win by 10 points.

2. Yes, redistricting is the bane of our existence here in Texas,
that and the Diebold machines make it feel impossible to achieve.
That and Bob Perry; the Bush money machine here.
We could have used more support for Chris Bell, here, tho.
He ran out of money weeks ago.
