20. Many "conservatives" go to these things because they feel they are supposed to go.

They don't really listen or analyze what the speakers say. They only go to "be there" and so that they can tell their like-minded friends that they were there. They listen to inflections in the speaker's voice and to the fewer people that really are listening to know when and how to react, whether it is applause or whatever.
