Can anyone recommend a new credit card company? |
|
I just canceled MBNA now BOA over what I believe to be deceptive business practices.
I just want one for gas stations and occasional purchases and I like to pay it in full each month.

Every time you use the card to make a purchase, 10¢ (ten cents) will be donated to groups working for peace, human rights, economic justice, education & the environment - at no additional cost to you! https://wwwn.applyonlinenow.com/USCCapp/Ctl/entry?sc=LV9F&GV1=H|266|=18562288

9. yes but - Working Assests visa is MBNA, now BofA! |
|
I have Working Assets Visa, it was MBNA, and now it's BoA.
If anyone knows of a progressive bank (conflict in terms??) maybe we could get them to switch.

2. I've had very good luck with my bank |
|
and I suspect their credit card policies are also good. It is an internet-only bank, www.firstib.com (First Internet Bank). You may want to try them.

6. Well, has your CC company ever moved your due date up by 6 days? |
|
In one month? Then charged you a late fee?

let them know we weren't paying it and they removed the late charge. For what it's worth.

24. They admitted my usual due date would be the 2nd |
|
Just that the cycle or some nonsense made it October 27th.
I had gone online to pay my bill in full October 29th to allow enough time to be credited to my account by November 2nd, and their system was down. I called the customer service number and found out they had moved the due date to October 27th, so I was already late.
I went to a BofA bank the next day, which was October 30th, and paid my account in person. I called them later that night to complain.
They would only refund half of the late fee, and I had to pay interest on the charges.
Now, if they are refunding some late fees, and not others, does that seem fair?
...oh, and yes, it is going on my damn credit report. I am burning up mad!

25. You should still try to get a letter from your bank.. |
|
stating there was a misunderstanding or miscommunication and send it to the three credit bureaus, asking that it be removed. They are especially lenient when it is a (1) X late. If you do it asap, you will be glad you acted promptly at some future date. It can only be of help to you further on down the road, as opposed to the alternative, dire consequences resulting from inaction.

19. I work in the financial sector.. |
|
Do all my banking online. My payments are withdrawn automatically each mo. on a date I've selected myself. Or if I chose, I can pay off the balance at any time. I do change my cards around though when the 0% interest expires. As soon as I do, they send me another one just because they want to keep my business. I love banking online. I can keep better track of my spending and if my debit card is short on money, they will automatically make a deposit to cover and overages out of my savings.
works for me-
It's a good thing to have credit cards but on your own terms, to maintain a good FICO score. Never charge more than 50% of the card's credit limit, and try, to pay the card off every month...or divide the balance in thirds to pay off the debt in a responsible way. A big no-no is going over your credit limit..If you do that vicariously without getting your limit raised ahead of time, your FICO score is heavily penalized for that (some 60-80 pts.) and worse, if you are late for a pmt.
It's getting to the point where insurance companys will deny you home owners insurance if you do not maintain a good credit rating. I'm sure this phenomenon will escalate into other areas such with Health Care Providers, Car Insurance, Life Insurance and the like..perhaps even cell phones at some later date.

I certainly would complain about it if it happened and check my credit report to see if it had been reported there as well. If it has, get a letter from the bank stating the late was in error, copy it, then send it on to the 3 credit bureaus and ask for the information be corrected at once.
If you do not check your credit report to see if that late has been recorded, it may linger there unnoticed, casting your credit profile in a bad light, detrimentally affecting your aggregate credit score. And if at some later date, you chose to apply for a car loan, Line of Credit, Home Mortgage or Personal Loan, that *late* will be reflected in the interest rate they charge you or they could refuse your loan application altogether.
So, an ounce of prevention and so on...

14. It's good to keep a credit card open just to maintain your credit rating |
|
I was using a debit card exclusively too, but then I decided to check my credit rating. I didn't have a FICO score because I didn't have any open accounts. If you need to buy a new car or something, it's nice for the banks to be able to look and see that you pay your credit card bills on time.

Just opened it last month. As well as a checking and 5% savings account. The accounts have to open via the internet only. BUT you can use their branches for deposits.

10. I have been a Citi card holder for over decade |
|
I have used other cards for comparative purposes.
My Citi Dividend card beats them in every aspect as far as I can tell. I use it enough so I receive the maximum allowable 300 dollars (tax free) back from them every year for using it.
Others probably don't like them for assorted reasons but Citi has always been fair to me. Their employees who work at their phone center are the best by far.
I have always paid my bill in full when I get my bill so I don't know how good they are if one carries a balance on their account?
Hope that helps.

and then get one of their debit cards and pay as you go. You can use it like a credit card but you can't spend what you don't have.
You don't want to be like bush's America do you?..In debt up to your _______?
I have had zero credit cards and a 0 credit score (my protection against ID theft) for the past 6 years and I have never had a better savings balance.
"Credit" is for housing only. Unless you want a perpetual mortgage on your income!

I don't know who Juniper is but at least they're not MBNA or Citibank or Capital One or any of the really creepy ones. A percentage goes to Democrats, so that makes me feel better. http://www.demcard.com/app/japply/lp/12942.jsp?obchannel=018&campaignid=0000448&obcreative=0000000&obadloc=000&listid=00000&ibchannel=03&siteid=0000000000&clickid=0000000000
