March 06 WEEKLY STANDARD BUSH-PENCE-HOEKSTRA To Blame For Leak Of Nuke Secrets
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 06:45 PM by kpete
Conservative publication: Bush, Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-MI), to blame for nuclear secrets being published on public Web site
by John in DC - 11/04/2006 06:03:00 PM

As you know, the Bush White House just published the plans for making a nuclear bomb on a public Web site.

We now know the reason why: Two Republican congressman and George Bush pressured the intelligence community to publish the information in a hurry, even though the intelligence community had concerns the info was too sensitive.

From last March's Weekly Standard, a very conservative Republican publication that's a big deal in DC:

Who'll Let the Docs Out?
Bush wants to release the Saddam files but his intelligence chief stalls.
by Stephen F. Hayes
03/20/2006, Volume 011, Issue 25

Bush replied that he wanted the documents released. He turned to Hadley and asked for an update. Hadley explained that John Negroponte, Bush's Director of National Intelligence, "owns the documents" and that DNI lawyers were deciding how they might be handled.

Bush extended his arms in exasperation and worried aloud that people who see the documents in 10 years will wonder why they weren't released sooner. "If I knew then what I know now," Bush said in the voice of a war skeptic, "I would have been more supportive of the war."

Bush told Hadley to expedite the release of the Iraq documents. "This stuff ought to be out. Put this stuff out." The president would reiterate this point before the meeting adjourned. And as the briefing ended, he approached Pence, poked a finger in the congressman's chest, and thanked him for raising the issue. When Pence began to restate his view that the documents should be released, Bush put his hand up, as if to say, "I hear you. It will be taken care of."

2. This article protects Senator Roberts - head of the
intelligence committee. Other articles blame him the most. Imagine that sort of cover up w/in the party. Isn't this a Scaiffe rag - if so, that would explain their position. Throw over the smaller guys for the important guy.

5. I don't think so. Just one more thing that shows the
Repubs can get elected but are too incompetent to govern. They (as a group) hate governing - they just want power. Dumping this onto the web was the result of a power struggle between the spooks and a few members of congress. Bush settled it by doing what he always does - he listened to the political folks instead of the professionals.

6. Why are the neocons helping the terrorists???
It's obvious the inmates running the asylum at the Weakly Standard are working overtime to distance themselves from this administration in order that they may latch onto the next one.

7. Hoekstra is scheduled to appear on 'CNN Late Edition' today!
Edited on Sun Nov-05-06 10:42 AM by ProgressiveEconomist
With Joe Klein,Barney Frank, Barbara Boxer, and a list of other R and D pols. See http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2576467&mesg_id=2576467 .

Do all these folks know about this Hoekstra story from March?

Great find--maybe your best ever, in time MAYBE to make a difference.

Too bad there's a Saddam sentence story and a nuke secrets scapegoat story from Los Alamos that are likely to largely shield Bush from this ultimate screw-up until election day.

8. Oh damn! I wish I had seen this before Pence awarded my husband a medal yesterday.
I would have definitely have marched over to ask him about it. My husband may have decided to protest one way or the other.

Damn, damn, damn!

We were at an awards ceremony honoring my husband's Guard unit. My husband and a few others received Combat Action Badges, which are given to soldiers who are in supporting roles, but are involved in combat action (radio ops., mechanics, etc.) Pence was there to help give those awards out and of course make sure his face was on camera. I will be happy to point out that he couldn't bother to be there when they actually CAME HOME in June! :grr: :grr:

BTW, our Mayor didn't even show up - he sent a CERTIFICATE IN HIS PLACE!!! Yep, another repuke. I am writing a letter about that one. :grr: :grr:

Anyhoo, I was very proud of my husband and his unit yesterday. We had a good time with my family and it was good to see him happy and smiling with a nice piece of metal on his chest. :patriot:
