Wed's News: Dems didn't win big enough, proving America supports BushCo
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 09:08 PM by Atman
I've seen this rumbling already, and I'm not surprised. Honestly, a few weeks ago my biggest concern was an outright theft, with the GOP using the loss to "prove" to America that the democratic party is over, finished forever. With the usual DLC suspects signing up for the beat down, lapping it up like thirsty hounds. Now I don't think it will be that extreme, but I think a variation of the theme will be used as a major smack-down, even if we win. Especially if we only win the house, and then double that if we don't win the house by a resounding margin. The talking point will be -- and again, I've already seen it brewing on other sites -- that with the horrible poll numbers for the GOP, with the terrible scandals which surround seemingly every member of the party, with the worst president in history and his subterranean poll numbers, with everything seeming to be going in our favor this time, the fact that the democrats could barely eek out a (XX) seat gain is proof positive that the party has nothing to offer. That while we gained, we actually lost because we should have won in a landslide the way the GOP did. "They" will use it as a vindication of sorts for continued support of BushCo's anti-Constitution policies and imperialist war mongering.

Bookmark this post. The excuse machine will be catapulting the BushCo victory-in-defeat propaganda like nothing you've ever seen.

Of course...I could be wrong. The Wednesday headlines could all be about the total meltdown of the voting systems instead.

;)

1. totally agree with you

remember though in 2004, Bush squeaked though and said - I have a mandate - I have political capital that I am going to use. Whether we win by 1 or by 50 - we win.

2. If the Dems have 50 seats in the senate, we will have won enough.
Because if we have one of the two independents on our side, Dick won't make a bit of a difference.

4. Seen it brewing on other sites???
I'm seeing it brewing right here. From my perspective, this post of yours plays right into it although I doubt that is your intent.
Who gives a damn what spin doctors try to say?
I don't.
Of course that's what they're going to say.
People pay too much attention to the media.
Talk is cheap.

5. How is it "playing into it" to get out in front of their lies?
It seems to me that it is better to get out in front of it and be ready to tell them to just shut the fuck up, that democrats WOULD have won in a total, absolute landslide if the GOP hadn't gerrymandered half the Democratic districts out of existence. If they had the balls to allow the American people to express their true desire for change, the margin of victory would be match the polls. The fact is, Americans are sick and tired and fed up with sleazy, corrupt, perverted, GOP corporate whores running the country into the ground, and every poll in the world bears that out.

Throw it back at them...Isn't it amazing that even with gerrymandered districts and a GOP-owned voting apparatus, they still had to fight for their very lives just to maintain a tenuous grip on power?

I get your point, but it does no good to brush off the media. The fact is, people DO pay too much attention to the media, and people aren't going to stop doing so just because we want them to pay attention to reality instead.

9. I'm thinking of it on too philosophical of a level I suppose
Something along the lines of if you fight evil directly you get involved in it yourself and it thinks of weapons to use against you.
Or in a more mundane sense, if you pay attention to bullies it gives them energy.
That's what I mean by playing into it.
But I do understand your point, I'm just more inclined to hope and even believe that if we take the House and hopefully the Senate, all that spin will automatically be seen as empty & it won't really be necessary to counter it except by getting on with the business of governing with legislative power. Because if we do, that will mean that a lot of people will have voted that way and they'll know they voted that way no matter what the spin doctors try to claim.

6. You can totally expect some serious prevarication
It's to be expected, we need to avoid getting sucked into it :D

As an old article said - GOP = Grand Old Prevarication :D

8. I vote for
Total meltdown of the voting systems. If we win less than 30 seats in the house, we need to take it to the streets.
