What do you guys think about this? |
|
Some wingnut has peppered my daughter's elementary school grounds with Allen signs (her school is the voting place on Tuesday)
Now, these signs aren't technically on anybody's private property, in fact, as a taxpayer in this fair commonwealth, I could argue that they are on MY property.
Election day is three days away; and everyone who drives by the school, on their way in or out, is going to see these signs.
I say they're fair game for removal. In fact, I'm picking up my son from Homecoming in about 15 minutes and I think we OWE it to the community to remove these eyesores.
What say you, wise DUers? Remember, this ISN'T someone's yard, but a public place.

1. Are there any laws in Virginia having to do with not |
|
campaigning in any way within 100 feet (yards?) of a polling place? If so, that might be grounds for removing the signs.

3. They are 100 feet from the entrance to the door to the school, but they're SO unsightly. |
|
I think the blight on the community alone is worth the risk.

We've been telling folks that 'there is speculation on the internet that he beat his first wife'.

I'd call the school, police, and complain - as long as it's a public school they have not business putting those up - I think. Now if it's a private school I don't think you can say anything.

19. Schools are public property. The signs are illegal. Call the papers, TV, |
|
radio news, the Principle, and the School Board and demand they are removed. The police should investigate, the elections office should investigate and if they find the culpret, they should be charged with littering at the least, or more depending on your local signage laws.
Make it an issue, and get those sign down ASAP.
Take pictures.
Student can wear political shirts, etc, but they can't place signage, bumperstickers, etc on the school property.
You are so right to be pissed about this.

25. Sorry, but I think you're wrong. I voted at a public library last week; |
|
a local school is always a voting venue where I live. And signs are always out, as they were at the library. You can't electioneer 100' in sight of a machine from what I've heard, but after that, all bets are off. I guess that depends on the state.

Which would be Tuesday. I don't have a problem with that. It's the fact that there are three days before the election and the mass quantity of them that pisses me off.

|
But here, we had early voting for about 10 days. I have seen signs up on medians for awhile that haven't been taken down, and that's public property. It's a lot less frantic here than in 04, and there are a lot less political signs, period. That could be a good thing.

money from placing signs on every bit of public property everywhere?
Can they place giant signs on wilderness lands so airplane passangers can read them?
Can they drape banners on the county court house?

Or handing out flyers.
Can you place political signs at polling places that don't pertain to the candidates?
Like Impeach bush?
How's that work?
