White House dismisses newspapers' call for Rumsfeld's resignation http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2006-11/05/content_5291399.htm 11/5/06
WASHINGTON, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- The White House on Saturday dismissed an editorial to be published Monday in four independent publications urging U.S. President George W. Bush to replace Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
White House spokesman Tony Snow dismissed the editorial as a "shabby piece of work," "sort of a caricature" and the work of writers who were "grandstanding."
Bush was informed about the editorial and his reaction was to "shrug it off," Snow told reporters on the president's airplane enroute to Waco, Texas.

needs to apologise for THIS JOKE, where he shrugs off the ENTIRE MILITARY CHAIN OF COMMAND.
He'd better wake up, THEY have all the guns, and it sounds like THEY are pissed. What happens when THEY decide that HE is no longer the Commander in Chief, and THEY don't have to follow orders anymore? THEY Shrug HIM OFF.
This may get scary before it's over.
The Shrugging Shrub.

However, the government really can't afford to be seen dancing to the military's tune. The interesting things to watch will be the military's response to this casual dismissal and how the editorial is used by the opposition to ratchet up the overall pressure on the administration.

White House response is likely to show military families just how out of touch the administration is, and how little they care about the people who are being injured and dying for the administration's errors and failed policy.
