Speaker Pelosi calls GOP a "Freak Show"

In an interview from her Capitol office, Pelosi characterized Tuesday's vote as a referendum on the war, shrugged off President Bush's efforts to make her liberalism a national issue, described the current GOP leadership as a "freak show," and expressed confidence about her party's prospects to pick up the 15 seats it needs for a majority.

Pelosi cautioned that the number of Democratic House victories could be higher or lower and said her greatest concern is over the integrity of the count -- from the reliability of electronic voting machines to her worries that Republicans will try to manipulate the outcome.

"That is the only variable in this," Pelosi said. "Will we have an honest count?''

"This is a freak show, and it has to come to an end," Pelosi said. "This is about a Congress and White House whose purpose is to concentrate wealth into the top 1 percent of our country at the expense of the middle class."

4. Very Interesting C-SPAN Call

The demonizing of Kerry & Pelosi may actually be backfiring. A man just called C-SPAN and said he was a "Conservative Repugnican" and said that he had become disenchanted with booosh and the Repugnicans, but not enough to fully jump ship...UNTIL he saw the sliming of Kerry. His comment was "Kerry was an idiot, but he wasn't being unpatriotic" and went on to say how he felt afronted how the booosh regime would use this for political purposes and "hide behind the flag". He then went on to say that he's now voting a straight Democratic ticket.

Hearing this stuff is too good to be true. If anything I've experienced in the last few weeks, it's a rejuvenation of my own spirit as I see and talk with more and more people who have taken off the blinders and see how far to the right this country has gone. It feels good to know one's convictions were right and that if others got blindsighted many have now woken up.

Here's a toast to all on DU who held hopes in the darkest of times. Many of us came here thinking we were lone rangers in a world of conservative wingnuts. We lived in a world where we saw boooosh as a total sockpuppet and arrogant doofus while his the corporate media said he's the guy everyone wanted to have a beer with. Hopefully Tuesday night there's gonna be a nice pay-off for all our frustrations and hopes.

12. She got it right--I saw her in my teeny tiny CT town at the Polish American Club the other night

and it was a THRILL to have her there on behalf of Joe Courtney, Ned Lamont, and our other dems. I couldn't believe she was there at this small town spaghetti dinner and as filled with energy, enthusiasm, and inspiration as if she'd been speaking to a crowd of thousands. The paper the next day reported on a Rob Simmons spokesperson talking about her "San Francisco Values." If her values are San Francisco values, then I say---BRING 'EM ON!
