A heaping helping of jim Talent on the Web

First it was the grocery store. You can’t get inside the door for all the electioneering and pollsters. Now the campaign trail has led to the kitchen. Is nothing sacred?

During Halloween week, Sen. Jim Talent of Missouri was a fixture on the Food Network Web site. His image was in an ad paid for by campaign supporters, the National Federation of Independent Business.

I found this out by accident when I called up several recipes for a Halloween open house. There, opposite the vampire punch recipe, was Jim Talent staring back at me. It was creepier than pouring green Gatorade into latex gloves and freezing them to simulate severed hands.

What political consultant had this bright idea of tapping into the foodie vote? Who convinced the senator that some woman looking up a recipe for deviled eggs in Independence would stop midrecipe to write a check for the Talent re-election effort?

more . . .
