wife blamed for Haggard's problems

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-goldstein/whos-to-blame-for-pastor_b_33279.html

Who's to blame for Pastor Haggard's fall from grace? His fat, lazy wife

Colorado Springs' New Life Church just announced that it has fired Pastor Ted Haggard for his "sexually immoral conduct." The much publicized meth and gay hooker scandal has elicited a little bit of soul searching and a lot hemming and hawing from Haggard's fellow Evangelical leaders, but perhaps the most ridiculous response came yesterday from Pastor Mark Driscoll of Seattle's Mars Hills mega-church-wannabe.

Writing in his personal blog, Driscoll offers his fellow pastors "some practical suggestions" on how to avoid the type of temptation that consumed Pastor Haggard. And near the top of his list?

"Most pastors I know do not have satisfying, free, sexual conversations and liberties with their wives. At the risk of being even more widely despised than I currently am, I will lean over the plate and take one for the team on this. It is not uncommon to meet pastors' wives who really let themselves go; they sometimes feel that because their husband is a pastor, he is therefore trapped into fidelity, which gives them cause for laziness. A wife who lets herself go and is not sexually available to her husband in the ways that the Song of Songs is so frank about is not responsible for her husband's sin, but she may not be helping him either."

-snip--

But mostly what I've learned from Pastor Driscoll's sage advice is that becoming a pastor is a great way to meet women. (And men, I guess.) Apparently, the ladies think pastors are hot:

"I have, however, seen some very overt opportunities for sin. On one occasion I actually had a young woman put a note into my shirt pocket while I was serving communion with my wife, asking me to have dinner, a massage, and sex with her. On another occasion a young woman emailed me a photo of herself topless and wanted to know if I liked her body. Thankfully, that email was intercepted by an assistant and never got to me."
Pastor Driscoll has been "blessed with a trustworthy heterosexual male assistant," and I'm sure he was equally thankful to intercept that scandalous email. Praise the Lord.

4. and inserts foot. Or some other body part.
a generation from now, they will look at these cretins as though they were living in the Dark Ages, Rev.2.1.1

IFF we survive that long because of their insane and inane policies. I wonder if they let their sheeplike wives out to vote. Without supervision and a strong guiding hand.

6. Oh, shit. Now I've heard it all.
"Our revered friend was forced to seek the company of a male prostitute because his wife 'let herself go'. Not his fault."

Do these people ever grow up? I guess the concept of taking personal responsibilities for one's actions must be a secular thing.

Asshole epitomized.

pathetic.

There are grand chasms between people in this country and many of them are created by churches and criminal leaders and profiteers. Just like in history.

So what kind of a revolution is going to throw these people off their pompous perch this time?

11. Pure BS
I've known many successful Pastors who were divorced. I know a very good pastor who has been divorced three times. If she "let herself go," and caused him to turn away from heterosexual sex to homosexual sex then by all means divorce her. If she is bad enough to make men change their sexual preferences then divorce from her shouldn't hurt any pastor.

15. How come no one called bullshit on this?
Driscoll's original article never said anything about a "fat, lazy wife." Nor did it blame Haggard's wife personally and in fact said she is not responsible, even though he qualified it with "but she may not be helping him either." Feminists have and do ridicule any man with a beer belly who lounges around in a "wife beater T-shirt" with a remote in one hand and a beer in the other. How is this any different? In fact, it is far, far less prejudiced.

Granted, the point may be that no matter how attractive the wife is, a man with "gay tendencies" cannot be tethered, but even that is simpler than what could be a complex situation. So though there is a lot to disagree with in Driscoll's article, at least the RR is acknowledging there this thing called sexual attraction. I, for one, am glad they are talking about it. They will naturally at first try to keep the spin twisted to the Right, but the more they talk, the more likely they will eventually discuss different viewpoints, and the more they do that, the more they will see things in living color rather than black and white.

Why not join in that conversation rather than twist it into something exaggerated or false and shut them up?

17. Because liberals are not immune from holding up a straw man.
A lot of faults we find in conservatives are human faults, and I can often find them carried out over here too.

24. Very true, and it at the same time somehow implies being human is wrong.
As if we could avoid that. Maybe someday when robotics is advanced enough and the correct correction chips are implanted under our skin. Or, more likely, when we can control our DNA though genetic engineering.

A lot of people do not like humanity very much.

But I found it interesting that through the slug-fest yesterday, no one bothered to find the original article the quotes were from, and yet we blame the "corporate" media for being shallow. When a person or a people suffers repression, the solution is often to identify with the oppressor, since, after all, that is where the power and control erupts. Better to be that power than to suffer from it. It is often too easy to become that which we despise.

18. Oh, I see...homosexuality is caused by shiftless, lazy females?
...while the bigots are at it, maybe they can reframe other biological variants as being due to the blacks, Jews, and any other minority or group other than white males.

WE NEED TO HAMMER THIS MESSAGE BACK AT THEM. I want to people to see via the MSM that the christofascists cannot deal with homosexuality, so much so that they have to blame the cause on women. This twist will hang their stupid cause.

20. I remember some Promise Keeper advice
That was featured in their magazine. Some pastor was finding himself attracted to his secretary and didn't know what to do, and the advice he got back from the PK Mag was to fire the secretary so he wouldn't be tempted.

It's never about them. They can't be expected to handle their urges; they can't be expected to grow up. It's always someone else's fault. A good lookin' girl (or guy) is all that's needed to destroy their supposed holiest, rock-hard foundation of Christian faith, which they shove into our faces on a daily basis.

It'd be funny if it wasn't so sad.
