Haggard: “I am a deceiver and a liar.”

Ted Haggard had a message for his congregation this morning, and in no uncertain terms he confessed to a multiple of sins. OK, I guess it was a bit uncertain. He doesn't spell whether he's a “top” or a “bottom, for instance, nor how cool it is to do meth while having sex with a bodybuilder. . . from the Rocky Mountain News:

”I am so sorry for the circumstances that have caused shame and embarrassment for all of you,“ he said, adding that he had confused the situation by giving inconsistent remarks to reporters denying the scandal.

”The fact is I am guilty of sexual immorality. And I take responsibility for the entire problem. I am a deceiver and a liar. There's a part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I have been warring against it for all of my adult life,“ he said.

In his letter, Haggard said ”the accusations made against me are not all true but enough of them are that I was appropriately removed from his church leadership position."

Great! Next time, though, you might want to try taking that responsibility BEFORE it's been proved that you're a liar and a hypocrite. You might even want to do it instead of slandering someone else by calling them a liar with an agenda. Hell, next time you could even do something remarkable for a fundie and not spread hatred of others for your own financial benefit to begin with.

This guy isn't a sexual deviant, he's a ethical deviant. There's a tremendous difference.

Haggard continued, "However, the fact that I have long harboured deep-seated homosexual urges has not really caused me too much conflict. The dark, repulsive part of my life that has caused me the most shame is my lifelong membership in the Republican party. While I apologize to my family and flock for this moral failure, I recognize that there can be no real atonement for this betrayal of my humanity."

OK, so I made the last part up...
