1. It's amazing what an effect a little racial baiting........
still has on some folks in the south, isn't it? We've come a long way in that area, but there's SOOOOOOO much farther to go. I don't think the gap is anywhere near 12% but I am very concerned about that race.

3. I'm really tired
of people insisting that southerners are racist. Maybe this is why we don't win in the south. Calling people names doesn't generally motivate them to vote for you.

4. Agreed
Sometimes I wonder if Democrats really want the votes of white working people in the South.

6. Well, I'm here in East TN, phone banking. Some Dems say they're
going to vote Dem for Governor and State Rep, but Republican for U. S. Senate. They can't explain why, just that Corker's their choice.

My fellow phone bankers from the Ford campaign were dismayed and asked "Why?", but the people wouldn't say. When they asked me later, I said it could be racism. They're just not ready to vote for an African-American. I'm not sure the ad had anything to do with these people, since their decision was made before that ad came out.

And, remember that he's being tarred with the issues around his political family. Several of them have pretty unpleasant reputations.

It's been a tough race from the beginning and was never one we could be optimistic about.

He's a great candidate and he's running a nearly perfect campaign. I think he's still got a chance and the polls are really very, very close.

8. Depends
on how many "some" is. I grew up in the south and I would say there are very few racist people that I know. Most people have gotten over the idiocy.
