Happy Guy Fawkes Day: Just Finished Three-Hour Sit Down Interview with Major MSM
Edited on Sun Nov-05-06 05:21 PM by CorpGovActivist
Let the bonfires begin. The "illuminations" of the BushCo. plots will reveal the full extent of how Bush and Cheney misled America.

that's why they fact check. Even though we know our friend CorpGovActivist is right, they don't.

They do not want to risk another Dan Rathering, where the admin. fucks them over.

And this is Cheney (as I understand it) we are talking about. He's the new Tricky Dick.

... when they scrutinize the data laid out for them.

: )

So, that means I've got to be willing to:

1. Show pay stubs from my time at Halliburton/KBR. No biggie.

2. Show e-mails from my time at Halliburton/KBR. No biggie.

3. Show my driver's license. No biggie.

And so forth. It's intrusive, if you look at it one way. It's natural and to be expected, if you look at it another.

That usually gets the ones who go overboard with it to lighten up. There comes a point after which they either believe that something so simple - a mis-directed e-mail - could have happened, or they don't.

I just wonder if the MSM are "hedging their bets." If Repubs hold onto power, they will be inclined not to rock the boat. If Repubs lose power, they will trot it out like they 'scooped' everyone.

Hope they prove me wrong ....

Don't forget, the editting process tells the story.

If I were giving video sitdown interviews, I would want a video copy of the entire uncut video --in fact I would tape myself so that there is no question as to ownership of the tape belonging to me.
THis is particularly good advice when being interviewed by entities with the Faux Network.

32. If Wikipedia is right, Guy Fawkes Day is a sort of British 4th of the July,
celebrating the survival of Great Britain as a country, a political entity and a kingdom, despite all--and initially saved from a Catholic plot to blow up Parliament and King James I, in 1605, led by Guy Fawkes, who was apprehended and stopped--having to do with the British break from the Church of Rome, and the distinction and individuality of the British from the Roman Catholic-church dominated European nations; and I would also say England's identification with the Protestant revolution. Wikipedia says the anti-Catholic bigotry associated with the fireworks celebrations has enirely died away in modern times, and what remains is an affection for England. And I guess this would be comparable to the 4th of July, which we still celebrate in the U.S. but we don't hate the British any more. There is also "V for Vendetta," the recent film, which uses the poem and myth of Guy Fawkes Day (the 5th of November) as a revolutionary reference.

So what could CGA be getting at, hm? Something to do with the 4th of July, revolution against forces of oppression, people power, peoples' identification with country, and V's message of collective action, strength in numbers against oppression?

Intriguing, CGA!

118. The bonfire is only a tool
to burn 'Guy'. Every bonfire has a 'Guy' effigy (usually wearing a Guy mask) placed on top before it is lit. It's not about the bonfire as much as burning the 'Guy'.

Children make the 'Guys' a few weeks before Guy Fawkes Night, and (when I was a kid) parade them around the neighbourhood in a dolls pram or pushchair, begging 'A Penny for the Guy'. The money collected used to be spent on fireworks. Each Guy is burned on the bonfire.

It's not like July 4th at all - no flags, no parades, no patriotism and it's not a 'holiday'. No-one lights the bonfire and thinks of England. In fact 'Guy' seemed to somehow have become the folk 'hero' rather than the villain (though he still gets burned each year)

Oh, and it's not a 'myth'. Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot were real.

So, what I want to know is - who's gonna be on top of the bonfire?

There are pervasive reports that divisions exist within the White House b/t BUSH&ROVE v. CHENEY & Libby, Rove v. Cheney, Cheney v. Bush, etc.

Has the Halliburton anchor around Cheney's neck been a contributing factor to the unhappy divisions between various WH denizens??

And if Rove knew about Cheney's problem, but assisted in keeping it quiet, is there another possible indictment for Karl? (even though he thinks the escaped Fitzgerald indicting him by throwing Cheney under the bus)>

Yes, and the "good code" that we rec'd from that little book was good for life! Everyone who had parents who read to them should count themselves among the luckiest ones.

Ah! A commodore 64! For us, it was a kit ... Heath-Zenith if I remember it right.

Tomorrow, I'll be repeating, "I think I can, I think I can!" and hope to work up to "I know I can, I know I can!" as I work my local polling place from 6:30 am to 8:00 and beyond.

Oh yeah! You Betcha! Lots of people here at DU ... and all around "the internets" are putting in their time tomorrow, and I'm just another one. But together, we add up to a lot of energy!

I was in a building at Mass. Gen. Hospital today -- the Warren Building. In the lobby, I saw (with new eyes) the massive granite wall with its engraved dedications to each of the Drs. Warren who are a part of the history there, starting with Dr. Joseph Warren, who gave his life, on the front lines, in the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775.

I couldn't help but think of all that you have put on the line for the good of all of us. So thank you, and thanks to all whistleblowers!

Next time you visit the Bunker Hill Monument, see the plaques, exhibits, and other materials dedicated to Dr. Joseph Warren "with new eyes."

Drink a pint at the Warren Tavern in Charlestown with renewed vim and vigor.

If you're ever in the DC area, see the stained glass window in his honor here with grateful heart: http://www.gwmemorial.org/Tour/MemorialHall/MemorialHall.htm

There's also one in Memorial Hall at Harvard: http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~memhall/staingls.html

His heroism at Bunker Hill was not forgotten by the likes of George Washington or John Hancock. Though Warren fell early, he fell well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Warren

Ides...

"... when you get back from working the polls."

Fell asleep a little while after I got in! It was exhilarating and incredible. Have been reading about the amazing victories with MSNBC in the background.

The traffic at the polls was very steady. Once in a while things got slightly backed up but not really bad at all.

Something that stood out was the number of people with physical problems who came out to vote. People using walkers, crutches, and wheelchairs.

We have about 1300 registered voters in my precinct and 900 turned out. 69.2% turnout.

It has been a GRATIFYING FREAKIN' DAY. We have a new governor, here in Massachusetts! :-)

Have been watching coverage of this monumental day :toast: on MSNBC.

I have to say, Voters: :yourock:

What a day!!! The House! Senate so close, still!

David's potential Allen scenario looms large.

LOL. I think at this point that the RNC will probably realize that to fight this means to piss off Virginians.

Virginia is not Florida. If the RNC turns this into an unseemly recount, that will make Virginia all the more flippable.

But there's always that "other" matter. Allen's little Abramoff Problem is not really something the RNC wants front and center, with the Senate hanging in the balance, methinks.

Glad to hear you had such a satisfying experience today. I plan to be up until Montana is called. I have a Virginia thread in my journal tonight, in case you're interested.

114. DEAR CorpGovActivist...
I have been following your threads as well as I can (much of it seems to be beyond me) and I hope that your work bears as much fruit as it clearly deserves. What kind of assurances do you have that, given the information, the MSM will pass it on to the rest of the world? There is so much that we know here that has gone un-disseminated.. So many important stories left to whither...

134. Well, Let's See...
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 09:03 AM by CorpGovActivist
1. Some of the MSM outlets have kept their word with respect to "groundwork articles," such as these: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=halliburton+nigeria+david+smith+%22calls+for+probe%22 AND http://www.google.com/search?as_q=halliburton+nigeria+david+smith+extend+foreign+corrupt+associated&num=10&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=associated+press&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&as_rights=&safe=images

2. The MSM also knows that they can ***become*** the story, if it emerges that they were the dog that didn't bark. After all, I have my own "printing presses," if you will, and I've kept careful notes of who knew what when in the MSM: http://www.HALwhistleblowers.org and http://www.BushBunglesBrigade.org.

: )

Hope that helps.

- Dave

P.S. The big question for many seems to be - will this break big before tomorrow? The answer to that depends on several factors, including (but not limited to): 1. last-minute prosecutorial deals, being made to get evidence against "big fish," and 2. the editors, producers, and lawyers at the MSM outlets in question. They have a right to protect their outlet from legal and reputational risk, and BushCo. would love nothing more than to use the prospect of what happened to Dan Rather to silence them.

107. and of course Bruce's takeoff on it
Grab your ticket and your suitcase
Thunder's rolling down the tracks
You don't know where you're goin'
But you know you won't be back
Darlin' if you're weary
Lay your head upon my chest
We'll take what we can carry
And we'll leave the rest

Big Wheels rolling through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams

I will provide for you
And I'll stand by your side
You'll need a good companion for
This part of the ride
Leave behind your sorrows
Let this day be the last
Tomorrow there'll be sunshine
And all this darkness past

Big wheels roll through fields
Where sunlight streams
Meet me in a land of hope and dreams

This train
Carries saints and sinners
This train
Carries losers and winners
This Train
Carries whores and gamblers
This Train
Carries lost souls
This Train
Dreams will not be thwarted
This Train
Faith will be rewarded
This Train
Hear the steel wheels singin'
This Train
Bells of freedom ringin'
This Train
Carries broken-hearted
This Train
Thieves and sweet souls departed
This Train
Carries fools and kings
This Train
All aboard

This Train
Dreams will not be thwarted
This Train
Faith will be rewarded
This Train
Hear the steel wheels singin'
This Train
Bells of freedom ringin'

Careful. Without knowing it, you're creating little patriots there. Those bedtime stories mean so much, and they teach so subtly!

Piled up in one big bed, long before cable TV, long before a personal computer was in our house...

... there were those bedtime stories, with parents providing structure, and saying, "I must supervise the children, ye know...the homework, readin` etc..."

Those are some lucky wee ones.

The sooner the corruptors are taken out with the trash, the sooner we can begin to restore the government that was designed to serve us, the people.

And once we have swept them from power, may we have the good sense not to compromise our constitutional rights in a futile attempt to attain 'security.'

As a nation, we can stand strong together if we do not let ourselves be divided by fear.

After we 'take out the trash tomorrow' let's get to work and fix up this place we call home.

Just listening to CSPAN. Someone called in saying if you're voting straight Democratic party, don't vote for the ticket all at once. Vote each office, one at a time, because the easiest hack is switching a ballot that voted all candidates in one party.

Wondering how accurate this is - if anyone knows.

128. I spent a few hours pouring over the links/info
you have provided. I also ran a few searches on "THE Google" looking for more recent stories...

I still have more to read/re-read and digest...

While I don't consider myself a stupid person, I am not up on SEC rules/regs and other laws surrounding the scandal.

enny-whoo, it has me a bit concerned as how the general public will be able to understand and follow the story when it breaks big time.

I mentioned this before in a previous thread - with Foley and now Haggard the scandal is easy to understand - inappropriate sex/drugs etc. with a cover-up thrown in for good measure.

the whole cheney/halliburton et al scenario just seems very convoluted, and not to imply Americans are stupid, but as a whole we like our news in easy to digest chunks.

137. My take on the complexity of the scandal
It doesn't matter how hard it is for ordinary citizens to understand. This isn't a scandal that will be played out in the court of public opinion or the media. This one is going to the courts of law, and they are quite used to dealing with complexity. When it starts breaking open in earnest, all the public will need to understand is "XXX, YYY and ZZZ have been indicted for fraud". That's simple. Even a Republican can get their head around that. Especially if XXX happens to be a Vice President...

It's pretty hard to "spin away" a prosecutor holding an indictment.

153. Can We Not Have All 3 Headlines?? .... Each Warms My Heart ....
I just happen to think the MSM will couch this story, at least initially, in the form of a question. They have yet to demonstrate they are willing to honestly examine an issue like this from the start. They always hedge their bets, then when it is inevitable they will come around and claim they were responsible for breaking this story with their early, tough investigative reporting.

I like your headlines better, and believe they are more honest and straightforward.
