Can we get off this "Win in Iraq" nonsense?
When the buzzer goes off at the end of a basketball game, can the losers win?

It's time for everybody, including optimistic liberals, to acknowledge the very simple fact that the game is over in Iraq. They have won. It is time to admit this defeat and LEAVE.

There can't be anymore talk about "plans" and "strategy". Neither the Democrats nor the pukes can have a winning strategy in Iraq at this point because it's OVER. How many more ways can I put this?

It's three strikes and we're out.
Our king has been checkmated.
We're all in and they have four aces.

Admit defeat and get the fuck out.

8. I don't think he means the same thing as Bush and the republicans when he says 'win'
in Iraq.

Look at his terms for withdrawal. Look at his criticisms of the invasion and occupation. The 'win' language, for Reid and many other Democrats, is a sheild from the 'defeatist' moniker which has a good deal of effectiveness in kicking our party's ass in these conservative districts and elsewhere. The counter to that isn't as crisp to the public as the 'cut and run' charge.

Reid is not advocating anything close to remaining in Iraq and continuing Bush's occupation. He won't have free reign, even with a majority, to stop the occupation. He still has to strike a political balance; first, in this campaign with all of the diverse races which are being waged in traditionally conservative districts; and secondly, in the Senate, where our party will not have a bulletproof majority even if we achieve the 51-52 seats we're hoping for. Politics is not unimportant, especially this close to the vote.

4. Oooh, here's another one I loathe: "War on terror".
WTF? "Terror" is a concept. You cannot declare WAR on a concept.

5. If it were really about "winning" we could win.
All we would have to do is put some insane 6th grade drop-out from Free Republic in charge.

Kill off half the population, level the major cities, build concentration camps for the poor souls who survive and still refuse to bow to the puppet government; we COULD do that, I suppose.

And if we do not, we are going to have to listen to the far right complaining for years to come that the liberal Americans were responsible for our loss in Iraq.

6. It is more than obvious that the current clowns have lost
whatever standing they may have had and the situation in Iraq is far from "winnable", whatever "wining is supposed to be, and headed in an inevitable direction far from anyones control.

7. First response to every RWer: "Define 'WIN'".
If they define it as a self sustaining democratic government in Iraq, ask do they think this likely, and how many lives and how many trillions are worth this goal.

9. there is NO way to win in Iraq, no victory to be had, all the dead...
...died for nothing. This is an utterly shameful time in American history.

11. I don't understand what they even mean by 'win'.
Win what? Many innocent American and Iraqi lives have been lost. Troops have been away from home and hearth for a long time. Iraqi cities are rubble. Who 'wins'?

12. Well past time to pull out of Iraq
We need to go back and settle that VietNam thing. Only this time let the supporters of this war, many of whom were supporters of the VietNam War, albeit from safe confines, "get in the shit". Since they're "hawks"
now, let them finish the war that so many missed because of "better things to do" or "I didn't want to die in a rice paddy in Southeast Asia".
