David A. Smith in the stocks: Dick Cheney's fondest wish...

Special thanks to David's partner and friends, who've quietly supplied a number of such goodies.

Happy Guy Fawkes!

P.S. This Is Your Life has nothing on what we've compiled.

1. Kind, Empathetic, Brilliant, Friendly
A rare combination, indeed, and the sort of character that KKKarl dare not assail, lest he lose border states:

"Natural leaders, (INTJs) are not at all eager to take command of projects or groups, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead. Once in charge, however, (INTJs) are the supreme pragmatists, seeing reality as a crucible for refining their strategies for goal-directed action. In a sense, (INTJs) approach reality as they would a giant chess board, always seeking strategies that have a high payoff, and always devising contingency plans in case of error or adversity."

Oddly enough, David collects chess sets. Don't play him.

... and you may find that I have more of these up my sleeve.

; )

David has a long line of friends who will vouch for him, should anyone in BushCo. dare to even try to pull a fast one.

6. The Midas Touch: leaving each institution better than he found it...
Edited on Sun Nov-05-06 08:07 PM by IdesOfOctober
Some of David's friends know that - due to his family's financial situation, and in spite of his severe chronic illness - he worked up to 3 jobs each semester, while holding down a full course load and all his extracurriculars.

His senior year - at the urging and request of several - David agreed to take on the thankless task of being Parliamentarian for the Undergraduate Council, or UC (i.e., student government).

The Crimson, the campus student daily, had a pretty low opinion of the UC. That opinion slowly changed, however, as the new President and Parliamentarian teamed up to give everyone's ideas a fair hearing. David administered the rules fairly for everyone, period, no questions asked.

One of David's jobs was delivering newspapers (including The Crimson) to the Law School dorms. Getting up at the buttcrack of dawn, David had his rounds done in time to make breakfast, take a shower, and hit his first class of the morning.

How strange it must have been for David to deliver The Crimson on Monday, November 29, 1993. There, on the front page, The Crimson photographer captured David. The nice thing about being in Cambridge for The Head of the Charles is - the current Crimson editors are very generous about giving copies of old articles and photos to alums. The most recent Head of the Charles was a couple of weekends ago.

The Crimson reporter and photographer assigned to cover the UC figured out quite quickly that David's fair administration of the rules was a key catalyst in the noticeable changes at the UC: http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=237050

"In response to inquiries from council members, Parliamentarian David A. Smith '94 informed the council of a few basic rules of parliamentary procedure. He posted the rules on the blackboard of Harvard 104, framing his head."

I expect a high-res digital copy of the photo that accompanied the article. Suit jacket, tie, and button up - to show his respect for the other members.

14. I think Cheney would look good in a nice,
naturally distressed pair of stocks, don't you? He would have to get fair and due process first. We will have to thank Fearless Leader and his rubber stamp Congress for all of the nice new draconian statutes that we can use to prosecute them with.
