OH-01, OH-02: CQ: Two GOP-Held Seats Now Toss-Ups !!!
<snip>

In another sign that the GOP implosion in Ohio continues apace, CQ Politics has just shifted its rating of two Ohio races -- in the first and second districts -- from "Leans Republican" to "No Clear Favorite." The races are Dem John Cranley's challenge to GOP Rep. Steve Chabot, and Dem Victoria Wulsin's effort to knock off GOP Rep. Jean "Mean Jean" Schmidt." CQ: "The Democrats have the momentum in Ohio. Their nominee in the open-seat race for governor, Rep. Ted Strickland, is a solid favorite to win on Tuesday, and their Senate nominee, Rep. Sherrod Brown, holds a lead, though a somewhat less dominant one, over Republican incumbent Mike DeWine."

And...

<snip>

With more than a third of Ohioans ready to vote a straight Democratic ticket, Republicans could be headed for electoral disaster Tuesday unless their vaunted get-out-the-vote effort comes through. Fueled by a huge margin favoring gubernatorial candidate Ted Strickland at the top of the ticket, Democrats have moved into position to sweep all statewide nonjudicial offices, a new Dispatch Poll shows.

The elephant graveyard also appears ready to claim two-term Republican Sen. Mike DeWine, who trails Democratic Rep. Sherrod Brown by more than 20 points. Ohio voters apparently are exacting their revenge for the scandals and corruption that have plagued state government; two-thirds of poll respondents said those factors were at least "fairly important" in determining their votes.

Among them is Paul Kerestes, 55, a Canton merchandising executive. He is suspicious of both major parties, but he says fellow Republicans who have controlled state government for more than a decade must bear the brunt of the blame for Ohio’s maladies. "All the jobs are leaving the state, everything’s a total stinking mess," he said. "I think the Democrats will probably do a better job. If not, we will vote them out again."

The poll shows that 35 percent are voting a straight Democratic ticket, twice those casting a party-line GOP vote. Perhaps even more telling: Almost five times as many independents are voting for all Democrats as are backing all Republicans.

3. Dogpatch poll has Brown waaaaaay ahead
62/38. Meanwhile PD is trumpeting their bogus Mason Dixon poll showing Brown only 6 points ahead. Puhleeze.

Ohio Dems are incredibly lucky to have such great candidates as Ted Strickland and Sherrod Brown.
