Oh boo-hoo-hoo Sandra Day O'Connor, enjoy your LEGACY
Gee I wonder what administration prompted the attack on "activist judges"...the one YOU installed.

====

SAN FRANCISCO - Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor said she fears judges are under growing political attack nationwide.

"I'm increasingly concerned about the current climate of challenge to judicial independence," O'Connor told a gathering of state judges from around the country Friday. "Unhappiness with judges today is at a very intense level."

The judiciary is the weakest of the three branches of government, she said, and therefore the one with "the greatest need to be defended."...

O'Connor, who retired in January after 24 years on the nation's highest court, spoke just days before South Dakota voters consider the "Jail 4 Judges" initiative. It would create a citizens' grand jury that could authorize lawsuits or criminal prosecutions against judges based on their rulings.

15. Well on the road to legal legend status, the first woman to sit on the SCOTUS
ended her career with blatant and biased ILLEGAL ruling that empowered the WORST pResident ever. O'Connor knew what she and her cohorts was doing was wrong and against the laws of the land. Whatever the motivation, rationale or reason, she participated in a bloodless legal coup de tat that circumvented the will of the people. And now she whines about the attacks on impartial judiciary?

Well, a girl can dream, can't she? There are certainly 4 judges I'd like to jail. There were five, but one died.

5. You, Ms. O'Connor, are as guilty as anyone for the weakened state of our judiciary
So don't come cryin' to me! You said aloud how you wanted to retire, but only during a Republican president's term. That's one reason why you voted to stop the proper counting of votes in Florida. Don't think we've forgotten where that decision took this country. We will NEVER forget.

First - she installed Bush as Prez.
Second - She waited until Clinton left to retire and then left while a crazy man was President allowing him to totally screw up the court. God knows who else might retire in the next two years and who we might end up with.

Your name will always be attached to Bush becasue you have been the biggest enabler of him.

Do you think of the squandered billions in Iraq?
Do you think of the 40 million people with no insurance?
Do you think of the shredded Constitution you swore to uphold?

Do you, Ms. O'Connor? And, if so, do you even really care, or are just posturing for your reputation.

22. Huh? "judiciary is the weakest of the three branches of government"????
Oh no....no, no, no.

She's a "Day" (as in Sandra DAY-O'Connor....one of the "old families" who really rule America. And she's calling in all of her "chits" now.....the judiciary is an EQUAL branch of government (with different responsiblities). It's the only one that isn't totally corrupted ~ and 'stands in the way ~ of all-out fascism/Europe/China/"the Corporations" running America completely.

Note: Please do a little research on the families who really own everything.....the Day family is right there among them. Google up the Federal Reserve Bank (yeah, it has "federal" in it's name so it MUST be an arm of the government ~ meaning "us", right? ~ it ain't so.....the FEDERAL RESERVE BANK (and all the notes it issues) are a privately owned entity.

26. That's exactly what the "controlling families" asked/demanded of her
....she was a "mole" of sorts.

That's why people are so perplexed as to why she retired when she did. 'People' thought that she was altruistic ~ looking out for their best interests. When if fact, it appears that she was a 'mole' ~ gaining the people's naive trust for 20+ years (first woman on the Supreme Court, etc.) .... all the while, laying in wait for the right time/opportunity (of which they can't predict) to play a "trump card".

Which she did.

Peace,
M_Y_H

25. ahem
this is the woman who almost single handedly kept reproductive choice alive. She crafted some very interesting decisions while she was on the court. She was very pragmatic most of her career, despite being a Rep. appointee.

While I agree with the fall-out from the 2000 election decision, I don't think she deserves quite as much excoriation as she is getting here.

Maybe where you live.
She acknowledged she wanted to retire prior to the 2000 election but didn't want to do so until hopefully a Repub could name her successor. So she fucked you and I for that purpose. If you aren't incensed, you're in the wrong house.

36. Well while you're using that superior ability
to think about more than one thing and look at SCOTUS in the long term, I hope you happen to notice that the court will very likely be right wing for the very long term you're looking at it. And you can thank Sandy O'Connor for her very valuable contribution to that extremely conservative slant.

41. however,
you are forgetting that she was appointed by a Republican. And that there are times when justices who are appointed do not always do the bidding of those who appointed them. And unfortunately, the delibterate attempt to produce layyers with a rightwing judicial slant, that produced Roberts and Alito, was a response to the Warren and other courts that were preceived by the right as excessively left. So there is often that kind of shift, depending on the President who is doing the appointing.

Even Clinton appointees were considered too moderate by some of us when he was choosing them. People need to stop complaining about the past and work to get a Dem elected in 2008 and taking back the COngress this time. The court is very fluid and only one part of the equation.

28. She kept reproductive choice alive . . .
...and believe me that is an important issue for me.

Then she appointed Bush, whose dream is to appoint a court that will ban reproductive choice. This is her legacy and I am surprised she didn't see it coming.
