A weekend of lit drops in Sensenbrenner's home town
You'd think he'd live somewhere where there are a lot of other millionnaires, but Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin is solidly middle and upper middle class. We had volunteers out there covering 10-15 wards this weekend. Bryan Kennedy has knocked doors all over town and I could tell by the patches of Kennedy yard signs where he had been. Kennedy even went to Sensenbrenner's neighborhood to talk to potential voters.

Its not that James Sensenbrenner is actually popular, its more that a lot of people in the district are stupidly Republican. We have a good Dem governor, and the Republican running against him (Congressman Mark Green) is an asshole who votes with Bush more than 90% of the time. Even though Bush popularity is down, I am not sure if the voters here are smart enough to make the connection. For that matter, Sensenbrenner is a Bush rubber stamp, and I'm not sure if the voters here are smart enough to do the math.

One lady asked what "persuasion" my candidate was, and when I said Democrat, she said "You can keep going". Middle class neighborhood with very modest homes- gee do they think voting Republican will make them rich or get them into heaven?

We need these voters, though. We need some Republicans to stay home on Tuesday or come out and vote for Bryan Kennedy. I feel like I am accomplishing more going to these neighborhoods instead of staying in heavily Democratic Madison, and by the time I get home I am ready to shower off the Republican air that clings...

1. You are making a difference. Thanks for your time and effort
and believing in the chairman's 50 state, 435 district policy. You may not get all of them, but just the a little nudge, goes a quite a ways in the long run.

For too long the Rethugs had no opposition in too many districts. Now they are having to fight on their "home turf". Kudos to Howard Dean and all who have made the 50 state strategy possible.

5. I was unaware of his strategy when I joined the campaign
The thing is- the fact that an excellent candidate is running has stirred up the formation of several Progressive Groups in the Congressional district and given hope to Democrats who have had to put up with Sensenbrenner for 28 years. Usually he has had no opponent. I live in a "safe" Democratic Congressional District, so I decided to work in a neighboring district, even though it means driving a few hundred miles in a weekend. We didn't know the mass disillusionment with Congress would be in full bloom by now, but it makes our chances even better!

2. Thank you - personal contact means a whole lot...
I wish I knew what to say to wake people up. The social psychology of 'in-groups' and 'out-groups' is soooo powerful that it often takes a crisis that all groups MUST work together to solve. We see and feel the crisis. They don't.

You persuaded some today, open some minds that might be persuaded tomorrow, and that matters.

:applause:

4. Also has a home on Pine Lake I believe
Don't know if the fifth district goes that far west, but I bet he spends most of his time there.

I am in his district and he no longer takes the time to write back to me personally.

An interesting thing - my neighborhood is nearly all Repub - with one of the most rabid households directly across from me. Every election, they have at least two Sensenbrenner signs - of the humoungous size to combat my collection of smaller signs (including, this year, a vote no for a fair Wisconsin) for Doyle and Kennedy. In years past, I post mine and then they counter with their huge display.

Not this year - their yard is BARE so far - and mys signs are still safe and sound.

Gladdens my heart, but I still think Jimbo will win given the knee jerk demographics of the district.

Thanks for the lit drop in the Falls.

6. I dropped some lit around the lakes
not sure where exactly Pine Lake is, there are so many. Most of the Sensenbrenner signs are the old blue and white ones, pulled out of the garage every two years. Well, I am seeing about 1 Sensenbrenner sign for every 250 Mark Green signs. Mark Green is just as obnoxious as Sensenbrenner, and I have no idea how a voter who votes for Green/against Doyle chooses Kennedy over Sensenbrenner, but I expect that some will do that. They're glad the ballot is secret, though.
