(Buckshot) Cheney to hunt on Election Day

Cheney to hunt on Election Day
Vice President heads to S.D. for first trip since accidentally shooting friend
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney will spend Election Day on his first hunting trip since he accidentally shot a companion last February while aiming at a covey of quail on a private Texas ranch.

The vice president, after working at the White House on Monday morning, will head to South Dakota to spend several days at a private hunting lodge near Pierre. Lea Anne McBride, his press secretary, said it was an annual hunting outing and said Cheney spent Election Day in 2002 at the same lodge.

He will be accompanied by his daughter, Mary, and his political director, Mel Raines, who will help him keep track of the election returns, McBride said.

On a Feb. 11 hunting trip in Texas, Cheney shot attorney Harry Whittington in the torso, neck and face when he pulled the trigger on his 28-gauge shotgun. The vice president later called it “one of the worst days of my life” and said, “The image of him falling is something I’ll never ever be able to get out of my mind.”

Vice President Dick Cheney went pheasant shooting in Pennsylvania in December 2003, but unlike most
of his fellow hunters across America, he didn't have to spend hours or even days tramping the fields and
hedgerows in hopes of bagging a brace of birds for the dinner table.

Upon his arrival at the exclusive Rolling Rock Club in Ligonier Township, gamekeepers released 500
pen-raised pheasants from nets for the benefit of him and his party. In a blaze of gunfire, the group—which
included legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach and U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX),
along with major fundraisers for Republican candidates—killed at least 417 of the birds. According to
one gamekeeper who spoke to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Cheney was credited with shooting more
than 70 of the pen-reared fowl.

After lunch, the group shot flocks of mallard ducks, also reared in pens and shot like so many live skeet.
There's been no report on the number of mallards the hunting party killed, but it's likely that hundreds fell.

11. Bullshit. This is just a cover story for his absence.
He'll be hunkered down in one of his "undisclosed" lairs,
doing whatever nasty crap he does on election day.

Any reports on where the senior Execs of DIEBOLD are scheduled to be?

12. What a coward. He's not a hunter, but a target shooter
He goes on RANCHES, okay? Fucking ranches where the critters are stocked for him to gleefully shoot. It's called canned hunting, but it should be called mass murder.

13. Gettysburg South Dakota
at the Paul Nelson Farm, his annual November trip. (Relax Agent Mike, it's public knowledge all over the 'net, o.k.?) Pricey too. For $3500 per person, you get a 3 day day "hunt" and allowed to shoot 5 cage raised birds.

17. It's far more fun when it's wild
On opening day (3rd Saturday in October), the birds are inexperienced and don't flee at the sound of a car door closing. They run instead, and you have to try to get them packed in enough to have no options but to fly away. One leaps into the air, a hunter fires, and the rest of the bevy panics and goes airborne. All of a sudden pheasants are at all points of the compass, cooing and cuckling while hunters cry out "rooster" or "hen" as required. They really do fill the sky sometimes, and you go into target overload. And then they are gone, and it's time to move off to a new field.

It can take all day (well, from noon until close to sunset) to fill your limit of three birds each.

Not surprisingly, Cheney is shooting fish in a barrel. It suits his personality. I mean, even if he can't walk very much, he can still hunt wild pheasants. He can be a blocker, and be part of the group that the other hunters drive the pheasants towards. All he has to do is stand there and hold a shotgun until the birds take flight. What a wuss. I bet he clubs baby harp seals while they are still in the aquarium.
