The smell of victory (and sulfur) in Topeka today

A group of us from Kansas City went to Topeka today. We started our adventure with a rally for Nancy Boyda, who is running against Jim Ryun. And is she ever running! Nancy is one of the most impressive candidates running for Congress. She energized a crowd of at least 1000 people on the capitol steps who are ready for a change. (Yes the paper says 500 but there were at least twice that many.)

"Let me tell George Bush something: When you drive a car off a cliff, Mr. President, your options get pretty limited," Boyda said, to loud cheers. "The failure in Iraq has not been a failure of our military. It has been a failure of our civilian leadership - and Jim Ryun."

Nancy is up in the polls. She has run a grassroots campaign with little national attention or money until recently. It is an exciting race. If we win this one, we will win a bunch more. And Nancy will be an awesome Congress Critter.

Then we went down the street and gave el pretzeldente a good ole Kansas welcome. He was appearing at the Expo Center and we stood right across the street with about 100 others on the welcoming committee. It was really rather sad. Three hours before he was to appear, a line of cars held up traffic as they entered the parking lot. It was interesting to see cars with Boyda bumper stickers in the traffic going in. I had a hard time standing across the street knowing he was there; I can't imagine how revolting it must have been to be in the arena listening to his bullshit.

About 20 minutes after he was due to start speaking, we noticed several cars leaving. Every one of these cars honked and waved at us as they drove out of the Expo Center lot. We finally realized these people must have been asked to leave early! Several of the people in our group said they had friends who got tickets to go and were planning on being less than welcoming. One guy said his friend dressed up like Thomas Jefferson and had a sign hidden under his coat. One lady drove over and parked and told us she yelled "fuck off" three times and was asked to leave.

Of course, the article I linked says nothing about anyone in attendance being unhappy with el pretzeldente. That darn ole liberal media.

I thought it was a great event. Topeka should be proud. We met some great people.

It's such a great way to talk to (at?) koolaid drinkin repukelicans as they drive by showing us their lovely fingers.

My favorite was the one who yelled "Go to Iraq!" LOL Dumb shit didn't study the script. He is supposed to say "Get a job, you dirty hippies!" and then WE say "Go to Iraq!"

They just get dumber an dumber. Sheesh

5. WTG!

I was stuck in the maze of police who would not let anyone through or close to the scaredy pants idiot. I got pulled over after I went through. What a fucking mess that was.

I am so proud that people showed up and protested and thanks to you all there were more. I would have loved to have just driven over but...it took me about 45 minutes to make a 15 minute trip.

Almost everyone I talk to and that includes a lot of very strong Republicans are fed up. I don't know what they will do. I think many will stay home rather than vote for a Democrat but that is OK. We just have to win and prove to them that there is an alternative to the fear and corruption they are seeing every day from these guys.

12. I just saw the NBC report.

It was pretty short but spent more time on the Boyda rally than the Bush** rally. I missed the first part so if they showed the protest I missed it but it was mentioned. The said hundreds for the Boyda rally but I have done enough rallies there to know from the sight of you all there were more than hundreds. Good job.

They covered Bush** pretty fairly too. They showed you all lining the street and did some interviews. Much better report than the NBC report.
