USA Today/Gallup: Corker 49, Ford 46
http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061105/NEWS0206/61105025/1001/NEWS

In contrast to several recent polls, a USA Today/Gallup poll conducted late last week shows the Tennessee Senate race remains a statistical tie.

The poll found Republican Bob Corker ahead of Democrat Rep. Harold Ford Jr. 49 percent to 46 percent among likely voters. The Corker advantage is within the margin of error for the poll, plus or minus 5 percentage points among likely voters.

Several other recent independent polls have shown Corker ahead by larger margins.

Less than 48 hours remain before the polls close on Election Day – Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Results of the poll were made public Sunday. The Ford campaign immediately jumped on the poll today, announcing the results at a lunchtime Nashville rally featuring Ford and Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.

1. I really want to see Ford win because of the racism involved
Same with Jim Webb over Allen in VA. There's no place for racism like that anymore.

9. Exactly! This morning, a political analyst on C-SPAN, Mr. Plotkin
said..."watch where the repuke big guns are going because where THEY GO, the race is in danger of being lost." If they weren't afraid of losing the seat, they would be campaigning elsewhere.

20. Good news from God and Mother Nature out of Tennessee:
Fair skies in the west: Democratic area
Overcast, few showers in the middle: Mostly Dem with a few rural counties.
Pouring cats and dogs in the east: Republican area.

Can't get a better forecast that that to stymie a turnout from a Repub aspect!

BTW, West Tennessee broke records with early voting: Harold's base showed up to vote at a GREATER percentage this year over the 2004 PRESIDENTIAL election.

:hi:

10. A three point Corker lead is closer to where the race really is.
Ford's about three or four points behind.

Can he make up the difference? I hope so, but I fear he peaked too early.

21. M-D overpolled the Republican East
East Tennessee has the least population and the most Republicans. West Tennessee has the most population and the most Democrats.

What did Mason-Dixon do?

Polled this:

East TN: 230 respondents
Middle TN: 225 respondents
West TN: 70 respondents

Tell me that ain't f*cked up?!!

15. Fellow Tennesseans - We need your help!
Tennessee may very well be the next Ohio or Florida this election cycle - the GOP is pulling out all the stops to quell Ford (who many know, I am not particularly enamored with, but will vote for nonetheless). Things are getting dirty, if that is any testament since this election has been the dirties in decades here in the Volunteer state.

I'm swallowing my Left-leaning pride and going all in for Ford tommorrow by being a poll watcher and a media liason for the campaign office. I encourage EVERYONE in this state to get out there tommorrow and do what you can to help make sure this election is fair, honest, and decisive. We are going to need boots on the ground in EVERY polling station in the state and good people working GOTV in every precinct. Be ready, be vigilant - Tennessee is shaping up to be the next Ohio and we can't allow that to happen.

I'd be there with you, but a slight problem with my pregnancy has doc telling me to STAY OFF MY FEET.

I have phone banked, though!

Go Harold!

17. Kick Ass Harold.....this asswipe Corker is bad for American politics...
He's concocted one of the most hateful campaigns in Tennessee history. Using racism, lies and fear to scare voters. It may just backfire on his sorry ass.

26. I hope Ford pulls it off.
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 06:03 PM by EdwardM
It was sad that the "call me" ad actually put Ford behind in the polls. I consider it to be one of the worst ads I have ever seen. If we want a 51+ majority in the Senate, this seat is an absolute must win. I've seen some people here criticising his social conservative record, but remember, he will caucus with democrats, and in a close election like this, that is very important, something we can't even trust Lieberman to do. We absolutely need to bump Arlen Spector off the judicary comittee if we want to avoid another Alito in the Supreme Court.
