late yesterday evening I received a phone call from my folks. It was the "just checking in to see if you're still alive" chit-chat call.
Usually we avoid discussing politics as we are on opposite sides of the fence and very stubborn with our opinions.
let me preface with this: My Mom has been pretty liberal most of her life. But over the past few years she's drifted toward a more conservative view. She voted for bush (both times) on the "tax cut issue". last Christmas she bluntly stated she thought "BUSH WAS THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER" - she didn't elaborate.
In 2004 - she volunteered at the local polling place to help out with signing people in to vote. Just checking people against voter registration rolls. She did switch from Independent to Republican a number of years ago.
Now, my Dad is a different story. He had been a registered independent for years. He switched to Republican during the Reagan years, and then back to independent during the Bush-1 years. He still remains an independent.
His political views make Rush Limbaugh look like a screaming-flaming liberal. 99% of the time he votes for a straight republican ticket, and as of our last political discussion (Christmas 2005) - he still backed bush/repubs.
last night - the Pigs grew wings and were flying in formation over the skies of Minneapolis.
My mom told me she was asked by local repub party to help with getting out the vote. She told them No, she couldn't support the republicans any more and she was voting DEMOCRATIC this year and will be switching from republican to Independent.
My Dad, who rarely talks on the phone is in the background telling my mom to give him the phone. He tells me I was right about bush/republicans, but he can't bring himself to vote Democratic - so he won't be voting this year except for the real local candidates in city/town slots.

9. I think you are right - and a lot of protest non-votes |
|
This could be a good year for the constitution or the reform party or the libertarian if they had their acts together - but fortunately they don't seem to. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

Bush is so bad he even drives the hard core away. Maybe this means improvement in your relationship with your family...I hope so.

Republican, way back when, was not a bad thing at all. But the past 50 years has been the injection of religious extremism into Government, which has proven in the past, to be a failed marriage. IT DOES NOT WORK.
The Founding Fathers were experienced with Religiously controlled Government. Our secular foundation which they laid, was made with a clear sentiment of a seperation of church and state as well as the free exercise of religion. Freedom OF religion is also freedom FROM religion, this country was not founded on a Theocratic system and never will be.
I am glad to hear that people are coming to their senses and realizing that we are way the hell off track as a nation.

8. We were giving our screaming R buddy hell yesterday. |

"Closet Democrat", we know he is, too. He would die before he would admit it, but there are a lot of people in the privacy of the voting booth who will be.

11. My family would *never* admit they were wrong. |
|
But I'm hoping they're admitting it to themselves, if not to me. (my family's politics sounds just like yours, btw)

I am going to look up to the skies tonight. If pigs were flying in formation over over Minniapolis last night they should be over MONTANA today and reaching the west coast soon. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
