Saddam's Verdict is not Playing Well in Some Places Around the World.........
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 06:28 AM by leftchick
Take Pakistan for instance.....

<snip>

In Pakistan, an opposition religious coalition claimed American forces have caused more deaths in Iraq in the past 3 1/2 years than Saddam did during his 23-year rule, and insisted Bush should stand trial for war crimes.

"Who will punish the Americans and their lackeys who have killed many more people than Saddam Hussein?" asked Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, a senior lawmaker from the Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal coalition, which is critical of Pakistan's military cooperation with the United States.

In the Arab world, some Muslims saw the sentence as divine retribution, but others decried it as a farce.

"Saddam is being judged by traitors, Americans and Iranians, and those who came on the backs of American tanks," said Mahmoud al-Saifi of the Arab Liberation Front.

2. Mainland Americans have been cut off from world news and opinions.
The Bush administration in compliance with the corporate media have made a conscious effort to stifle or dismiss world opinion of the US. The BBC, for those that can get it, is about the only window to the outside world we have anymore. NPR used to have a finger on the pulse of Europe and Asia, but lately their morning broadcasts' foreign news has been confined to Africa (aids crisis for instance). Maybe that will change November 8th when we'll be free again.

4. Try and watch John Bellinger on Hardtalk

BBC is a mixed bag since it pushed Blair propaganda but Hard Talk is a great program.

3. While I recognize
that Saddam was one of the most brutal sociopaths in recent history, I suspect that hanging him will have both immediate and long-term consequences that are not in the USA's favor. It may ignite the anti-American passions of a considerable segment of the population, even more than we suspect. Their country is already a powder keg, and all it takes is something that appears small to act as a fuse.

I am against the death penalty, and that may influence my opinion here. But I think keeping him alive, in a lonely cell block with others from his government, might be the best alternative.

5. I agree
and I am not so uncertain that the immediate verdict won't cause chaos in the nether regions of the world.
There is part of me that wonders if that is exactly what this cabal wants.

9. I believe that part of you would be correct.
The cynic in me has been turned into the Hulk by the Cabal. I can believe that very easily.

6. Plus, as I've said before, it raises the interesting prospect of
setting a precedent for trying and (possibly) executing heads of state viewed as war criminals. I mean hell, if causing the deaths of innocent people through lies, deception, thuggery, and torture are the standard, if I were an American like Kissinger or Negroponte or any of the current batch in Washington that masterminded the murders of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians, I would be watching my back very carefully.

Ask Pinochet.

8. " American people will be in more danger with the death of Saddam."
You nailed it H2O Man. I agree with you on the death penalty as well.

<snip>

Islamic leaders warned that executing Saddam could inflame those who revile the U.S., undermining President Bush's policy in the Middle East and inspiring terrorists.

"The hanging of Saddam Hussein will turn to hell for the Americans," said Vitaya Wisethrat, a respected Muslim cleric in Thailand, which has its own Islamic insurgency in the country's south.

"The Saddam case is not a Muslim problem but the problem of America and its domestic politics," he said. "Maybe Bush will use this case to tell the voters that Saddam is dead and that the Americans are safe. But actually the American people will be in more danger with the death of Saddam."

7. I think the Bushies* live in absolute fear...
that they (especially GW, but GHW, as well) will be "picked up", renditioned to one of these countries, and face war crimes... I doubt they could do so, but just knowing how many groups across the world would probably like to, has to put fear in his cold, cold, heart.

(Agent Mike, I absolutely wish no harm to come to any of this crowd... this is my disclaimer, which is necessary for those whose name is not Ann Coulter or Rush Limbot)

10. Bushco is Pushing for Execution of Saddam to Keep Him Quiet About...
... how the US financed him, provided him with weapons, gave him secret military intelligence during the Iraq/Iran War, helped him skirt the oil for food sanctions of the UN, and what he knows about Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld.
