2. Mainland Americans have been cut off from world news and opinions.

The Bush administration in compliance with the corporate media have made a conscious effort to stifle or dismiss world opinion of the US. The BBC, for those that can get it, is about the only window to the outside world we have anymore. NPR used to have a finger on the pulse of Europe and Asia, but lately their morning broadcasts' foreign news has been confined to Africa (aids crisis for instance). Maybe that will change November 8th when we'll be free again.

3. While I recognize

that Saddam was one of the most brutal sociopaths in recent history, I suspect that hanging him will have both immediate and long-term consequences that are not in the USA's favor. It may ignite the anti-American passions of a considerable segment of the population, even more than we suspect. Their country is already a powder keg, and all it takes is something that appears small to act as a fuse.

I am against the death penalty, and that may influence my opinion here. But I think keeping him alive, in a lonely cell block with others from his government, might be the best alternative.

and I am not so uncertain that the immediate verdict won't cause chaos in the nether regions of the world.
There is part of me that wonders if that is exactly what this cabal wants.

setting a precedent for trying and (possibly) executing heads of state viewed as war criminals.
