The hypocrisy of forgiveness and the religious right. |
|
I've herad lots of articles read this morning on news programs in which evangelicals in Colorado are treating Haggard's transgressions with tenderness and forgiveness, reminding the world that all people "sin" and deserve the forgivness of the community as Christ would forgive. Now wouldn't it be interesting if these folks would extend the same forgiveness to all others they condemn? How about opening their arms and accepting the GLBT community as a whole? Will Clinton ever be forgiven by them? Will they ever see forgiveness as a value to be applied beyond their own congregations?

because Bill Clinton wanted to get a BJ from woman who wasn't his wife, because he's an evil, evil pervert.
Whereas Ted Haggard didn't want to get a "massage" from that male prostitute, or have sex with him over and over again, or by meth from him, or take the meth before having sex with him... wait, where was I, oh yeah, he didn't want to do that, he was just lured away from righteousness by Satan.
No, it doesn't make any sense to me, either....

Where is the forgiveness and acts of being non judgemental toward those not in their circle?
If they would spend more time opening their hearts and their arms, instead of their mouths and their legs, then maybe I wouldn't have such contempt for the hypocritical bastards.
They should really stay out of politics. Period.

3. I have learned that many if not most evangelicals take a smorgasbord approach to their faith |
|
They only use the parts of the bible that apply to specific situations when they need them to support their beliefs. Today they forgive, for tomorrow they will condemn, depends on if they choose the new or old testament to make their belief dejour. You can't confront them either, for they are the righteous ones

4. It's not about forgiveness. It's about submission to their authority... |

Edited to add:
They don't believe in "forgiveness."
They believe in wiping the slate clean once you agree to submit to their authority.
That is not "forgiveness."
Not punishing people who refuse to believe the way you want them to is forgiveness.
Their "forgiveness" is just another weapon in their chisto-fascist arsenal.
Their "forgiveness" isn't a warm fuzzy blanket-- it's a carrot to dangle while they threaten you with the damnation stick.
"You will obey our demands, or you won't get our 'forgiveness,' and you will be damned to Hell."
"Forgiveness" my ass!
