Limbaugh makes a great point
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 09:32 AM by Orrex
The truth-loving, non-exaggerating Limbaugh has repeatedly pointed out that Baghdad (or any war-torn city in Iraq) is statistically safer than, say, Detroit. Presumably he means safer for US service personnel, since actual residents of Iraq are being killed by the dozens. But anyway, I came upon a statistic this morning that put it all into perspective for me.

From the The CDC:
Number of deaths for leading causes of death
Heart disease: 654,092
Cancer: 550,270
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 150,147

Anyone can see that all of our personnel could be killed and that still wouldn't equal the number of good, patriotic citizens who die each year from stokes alone. Heck, you could throw the entire UK contigent (some 7,000 troops) onto the pile, and strokes would still kill more.

So we liberals should quit your belly-aching and take up arms against the real enemy: Democrats.

1. Here's The Facts, Jack
Violent Death Rate in Baghdad: 35 times Higher Than New York City

(and that's an old article - much worse now)

2. I really hope that you've forgotten the sarcasm smiley
I would recommend that you add one for those who are sarcastically challenged. Otherwise those flame retardant long johns you're wearing aren't going to help out a whole lot.

3. Any time some "Lim-bot" or "Lim-basshole" tries this shite on me,
I say the following:

"In which U.S. city are 60+ tortured and desecrated bodies showing up every single day? In which U.S. city are there daily car bombings and sniper fire, often with multiple victims - some of which are U.S. service personnel? Because I want to make damn sure I stay away from THAT U.S. city."

5. I take a similar approach
When someone points out that 3,000 is "just a number" or else makes an equivalently brilliant comment, I suggest that we round up 3,000 of the top-ranked Conservative political figures in the country, since such a small number wouldn't be a big deal, right?

7. When someone tries to tell me 3000 dead US = nothing, I mention 2600
dead US in NYC, September 11, 2001; they must be LESS than nothing then, as they're less than the number of US dead in Iraq from bush's illegal invasion of a nation that hadn't been doing anything to anyone.

That always shuts them the fuck up.

8. Obviously you just don't get it
I mean, we have to fight them there so that we don't have to fight them here. Read your party literature to clear up any lingering misunderstandings.

9. Yep I'm expecting them Iraqi women and children to be over here fighting
any day now. I am quivering and trembling in fear because the GOP wants me to be very afraid of all those children... Only under Republican Leadership has America been so very afraid. Democratic Leadership means Americans can sleep well at night and only be afraid during an actual attack upon our country.

4. Detroit is probably safer for our military personnel than any city...
in Iraq. I don't think many US troops in Detroit are being killed so it would seem to me that cities in Iraq are more dangerous! I suppose it is just how one frames the debate!!!!!

10. Insurgent stronghold only 400 yards from the Green Zone:
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 10:05 AM by kurth
"The Americans haven't even been able to take over Haifa Street (a Sunni insurgent stronghold) though it's only 400 yards from the Green Zone," a senior Iraqi security official exclaimed...

11. this is hugh
so, even if the death rate of american troops in iraq were 100%, it would still be lower than the death rate of normal americans. there's only one solution. we all have to go to iraq, where the death rate is significantly lower. thank you for opening all our eyes, mr limbaugh.
