Odd. There is a huge silence re: Haggard Affair in KC
I have breakfast every morning with a good Evangelical. So far this matter has just brought silence.

Kind of like the silence about the Iraq war.

And about Bush and his minions in general.

I think the Evangelicals are really, really upset right now. But they are so against voting for a Democrat that they just don't really know what to do.

Maybe the new message will be to stay out of politics. Kind of like Home Schooling or sending the kids to Christian schools - keep it out of the general pool of people. It is safer to stay with your own kind.

2. "Silence of the lambs?"
They've been led to the proverbial slaughter by these charlatans and are just too dumb to realize it.

4. The stories I read said that those in his church are 'praying for him and forgive him'.
Why? What makes him any different from the millions of heterosexuals that they routinely want to either run out of the country or stone?

6. Because he's part of "The Family"
That's one thing we all need to understand. The cult-like behavior is underestimated (and overlooked).

5. "But they are so against voting for a Democrat..."
and that's the problem. They have been systematically "cultivated" to think (not just believe, but think) in terms of 'Democrats(/Liberals) are evil'. It's part of the Family DNA.

Yes, many are upset. But, unless there is a mass and instantaneous de-programming, I'm not hopeful of seeing a sudden enlightenment with in the next three or four elections cycles.

On the plus side, there are FINALLY voices of reason out there people are hearing. The steadfast refuse exposure, but as the voices of reason continue to grow it's going to be impossible to avoid them.

IMHO, the growth of progressive talk-radio is having a bigger impact than many realize. For example, here in my ruby red county of DuPage, we finally have an alternative to hate-radio (even if it is only from sun up to sun down LOL!). But, it's had the effect of people feeling energized...they're no longer alone in their community. And Democrats are making significant progress around here.

8. "a mass and instantaneous de-programming"
I think all the sex scandals is part of that deprogramming. One part of deprogramming I think is destroying the ego, which is what is going on now. The next step will be that they need to understand the consequences of their negative behavior.

7. i remember when people did not wear their religion on their sleeve
one`s religion was a personal thing not something for public display...my how things have changed. actually i think your friend is deeply troubled that she believed that george was a honest man and her trust was violated. she as a christian she made the mistake that many have made, she confused a man with her savior...

as a party we have to include those who we think are not worth saving because we have more in common with the evangelicals than we think.

9. Are there any tight races in KC other than McCaskill/Talent?
Might some evangelicals not say anything, but vote Dem anyway?
