All Their Sins Remembered
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 10:53 AM by Prisoner_Number_Six
Suddenly, they're out of time.

They've had six years to destroy America. They haven't quite succeeded yet, but they've come very, very close. They've successfully instituted many Orwellian devices, from endless war to kidnapping and torture of innocent citizens to total, ceaseless surveillance of everybody except themselves.

Their meaningless, mindless attacks on defenseless countries have put thousands of our children in coffins, and many thousands more of their innocent victims of aggression have been maimed and killed in the process. They've strafed and bombed wedding parties and then shrugged their shoulders and done it again the next day.

They've emptied the national treasury and destroyed the economy- their financial machinations have had world wide negative impact. They've stolen the retirement funds of countless people, sending seventy year old men and women back into the work force so they can pay their rent and electric bills.

They've made certain that essential medications are outside the reach of the elderly- our senior citizens are now sickening and dying because they can't afford the drugs vital to their health. Drugs that should be free have been literally priced a thousand percent and more beyond the cost of their manufacture.

They've outsourced our jobs to foreign countries where they pay pennies on the dollar for unqualified people to poorly do what we used to do proudly and well.

They drowned an entire city and its citizens, then turned their backs on the aftermath. Their indifference to the human toll is staggering, and the effects will be felt for years, reaching outward from the coast in ripples that even now engulf the nation.

They've doubled the price of gasoline, in the process shutting down many small businesses and independent truckers because the daily price increases took their profit margin away.

They've denied the existence of global warming and censored scientific reports that describe how horrific things will become if action is not taken. They've broken just about every law that was put into place to help preserve our planet- it is seemingly their goal to bleed every drop of life possible from the Mudball for their own monetary benefit.

But now their sins are being revealed. The rock has been lifted and they are being exposed to the light of reality. Like the filthy cockroaches they are, they have begun scurrying away in the blind panic of their exposed guilt. One by one we have begun stepping on them, letting them know we see them and we intend to put a stop to it tomorrow.

There is only one move left open to them now- Grand Theft Democracy.

They've done it before, and we all know they're going to try it again- indeed, it's already begun. The reports are streaming in about their attempted manipulations of the voting system.

They know their goose is cooked- the only way for them to retain power is to lie, steal, and cheat. What little integrity they ever may have had is gone. They've managed to turn the world's beacon of freedom into a mockery, lying to us all and expecting us to accept the joke as they nod and wink and then slip the knife into our collective back.

We will not let them do it again this time. We CANNOT let them do it again. Tuesday is literally our nation's last chance to stay a democracy. If we lose this one, on Wednesday the transition to fascism will be complete. It will be permanent. We will never get another chance.

Vote, people. It's the only tool you have left. And when you do go to the polling places, keep your eyes open. Keep your ears open. Keep your cameras handy. Be prepared to loudly challenge all the inconsistencies. Be prepared to make a public scene if you have to.

MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT. It will be the most important thing you'll ever do for your country. It will be the most important thing you'll ever do for the world. It may well be the most important thing you'll ever do for the rest of your life.

4. nice title
but I do not understand why either Joe Haldeman or myself is not given any credit for it.

Always possible that you never saw my thread or read my journal. Lord knows, nobody on DU bothered to respond to it.

6. You're right
I had intended to credit Joe Haldeman and his most excellent novel in my post, but at the last minute it slipped my mind. The reason I chose that title is, I re-read the book about two weeks ago, and I've always loved the title.

I failed to mention you simply because I hadn't read your journal post. Now that I've gone through it, I can give you the kudos you deserve.

Mea culpa.

10. So we have similar taste in titles
Also this thread is not getting enough attention or generating enough discussion.

Actually I have not read your entire OP. It has nothing new to me or probably most regular readers of DU. This is not meant as a criticism because you have done a good work of remembering.

It is hard for me to fathom, on this election day, how so many American voters can still be either so unaware or unconcerned about the perfidity of these people. It's like they need a house to fall on them, but even then if Bush was their contractor they probably would just say "well, nobody could have predicted that" even though a Democratic house inspector was out there last week saying that the construction was substandard.

Perhaps instead of "had enough?" our theme should have been "we fu$%ing told you so" because I am sure we can find quotes from before the war, and here's one from Senator Nelson of Florida before the tax cuts of 2001.

"I strongly support responsible tax cuts of nearly $1 trillion that
would give Americans the relief they deserve. I voted for such cuts as
some of us tried to amend both this bill and the earlier budget
resolution. Specifically, I support tax cuts that meet four criteria--
tax cuts that (1) do not raid Social Security; (2) do not raid
Medicare; and (3) provide relief from the marriage tax penalty now, not
later; and (4) pay down the national debt.
Instead we are left with a tax package that is fiscally
irresponsible.
With all due respect to Senators Grassley and Baucus, we are about to
vote on a tax bill that largely promises future relief based on future
surpluses that may not materialize. It poses a serious threat to our
economy because it will use up what surplus there is so we cannot pay
down the national debt. And it seriously threatens our Medicare and
Social Security trust funds--not only in 2012 but beginning next year."

Let me repeat the one line: "With all due respect to Senators Grassley and Baucus, we are about to vote on a tax bill that largely promises future relief based on future surpluses that may not materialize."

That's pretty prophetic, and I would add that the only respect Senators Grassley and Baucus are due is none. In fact, less than none, an amount of respect equal to this years deficit.

11. I think it's more along the lines of "Great minds think alike"
We at the DU tend to be WAY more aware of the current state of things than most citizens- a great majority remain asleep, or transfixed by Faux news and The Simpsons. They simply don't care, and never wil as long as their favorite episodes of the latest "reality" shows start on schedule.

At the end of the day, we're still just a small voice in a very noisy room. The only thing we can do is shout through the loudest megaphone available, and hope to waken as many of the sleepers as we can.

Good luck to us all.
