What's Up With MSNBC?
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 11:09 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
There have been five generic congressional ballot polls released in the past several days that show leads for the Democrats anywhere between four and twenty perecent. I suspect the four point poll (and) the twenty point poll are outliers.. I also know that when you look at polls you should throw out the outliers or look at the average of all the polls.

That being said why is MSNBC flogging the poll least favorable to the Democrats?

The correct information is out in the public arena and it shows contempt for the intelligence of their viewers...

They might as well show "Headliners And Legends" all day...

What a joke they are...

1. Two things
1. MSNBC owned by a defense contractor that has made out as a bandit in the last six years.
2. MSNBC is a television network, and close elections sell soap.

I think besides FOX the main stream media's problem is not bias but it's reliance on memes from the "Kerry fiasco" to "the election is tightening" meme...

9. I Don't Like Cherry Picking Polls Or Intellectual Dishonesty...
There are five polls out there. As a political scientist it's pretty sloppy to flog one poll because you like the results or they make a good story.

If the polls favored the GOPU I would be willing to take my medicine but that's not the case.

Plus CNN is flogging their own poll...

Don't like the news you're getting then watch it on another channel. There's something very wrong with that. News should be news...

4. MSNBC is a blessing in disguise
It's increasing the conviction among Democrats that we must VOTE. Better this than hyping surveys showing Democratic candidates with comfortable leads. Complacency can be fatal.

5. NBC is the house organ of GE.
GE is one of the largest "defense" contractors in the world.

Next question.

6. Here's my take on all of this.
It is crucial for their ratings to have a close election; so they're making it happen. It's like a football game. Do you keep watching if one team is ahead by 30 points and the other has no chance of winning? Of course not.

As a sidenote - I caught Chris Mathews on Today this morning and he said he believes Democrats will win big. He thinks when people vote tomorrow, they'll be taking Iraq in the booth with them.

7. As a student of the media...
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 11:19 AM by The Watchman
I'm taking a class now in the media and politics, we've found that this is simply following the political naritive, the race is a dead heat, its anyone game is gunna sell alot more ads then "Dems have slight lead into election." the Story will be "republicans closing the gap in closing seconds, could come back to win."

Whatever the storyline the media REFUSES to give any credit to Howard Dean and his fifty state appoarch.. they keep answering the question "who is the architect of the democratic victory?" with "Mark Foley."

8. I think the MSM will ALWAYS try to portray elections as close
even when they're not. Tight elections are more "newsworthy."
