Stem Cell Cr*p being spewed over email in Missouri....
Here is the CR*P that is floating around in Missouri: And then at the bottom is my friends response, who has a very personal reason to vote YES. It's an amazing response.

FIVE REASONS TO VOTE NO ON AMENDMENT 2:

1) It constitutionally protects human cloning: This amendment would
create an unlimited state constitutional right to clone and destroy human
life at the embryonic state for experimentation using the same process
which created Dolly the sheep. Proponents state that it is NOT cloning and call
it somatic cell nuclear transfer but, according to Webster's dictionary,
the definition of a clone is: an individual grown from a single somatic cell
from its parent and genetically identical to it. This "human" cell is
combined with a donated "human" egg resulting in a "human" embryo.
Biologically speaking, any embryo containing human DNA is a human being.
And that embryo is what is used for experimentation. Also known as
harvesting body parts for research.

2) It will lead to the exploitation and endangerment of women:
Amendment 2 would lead to thousands of vulnerable young women to undergo
super-ovulation to produce the eggs necessary for this research, up to 35%
of these women will experience health consequences, some as serious as
stroke, infertility, organ failure and some women will even die. The
majority of these eggs will most likely come from poor college students who
will sell them for research.

3) It grants public money for private profit: By providing one
industry with constitutional protection, this cloning amendment grants
political insulation and public money.all for private profits.

4) It is intentionally deceptive: Cloning proponents have redefined
terms in an effort to mislead voters, deliberately using political double
talk instead of accepted scientific definitions.

5) It is funded by elites: One wealthy couple has contributed 95% of
the funding in an attempt to buy a constitutional amendment which would
allow their research institute to tap into millions of public funds.

More FACTS about Stem Cell Research:
Adult stem cell research which includes stem cells from umbilical cord
blood, placenta, amniotic fluid, adult tissues and organs such as bone
marrow, fat from liposuction, regions of the nose and a host of other cells
has proven to be extremely successful in treating over 65 illnesses.
Progress has been made with heart disease, Parkinson's, spinal cord injury,
leukemia, sickle cell anemia, some forms of blindness, and much, much more.

Embryonic (or somatic) stem cells have led to ZERO solutions or remedies
despite 25 years of research in animal models. To the contrary, ESCR has
show to be riddled with problems, such as tumor formation, difficulty of
obtaining purer cultures of cells, unstable genetic expression, and immune
rejection. The risks of failure on ESCR are so high that none of the major
biotech companies in this country - none of them - are putting their money
behind therapeutic cloning. Only with public dollars is the myth being
kept alive.

IF THIS AMENDMENT PASSES, MONEY WILL BE TAKEN AWAY FROM ADULT STEM CELL
RESEARCH, WHICH HAS HAD PROVEN RESULTS AND GIVEN TO SOMATIC STEM CELL
RESEARCH THAT HAS MADE NO PROGRESS!

And a friend of mines response...CLASSIC!

FIVE REASONS TO VOTE YES!

1) The blastocysts that are created in this process contain only 150 cells.
A fly's brain, by comparison, contains 100,000 cells. Equating 150 cells in
a petri dish with a living, breathing human being suffering from any number
of maladies----a human that might be helped by such research----is immoral &
unethical.

2) The blastocysts that are created today are usually discarded. That's
right, simply thrown away. By allowing research on the blastocysts, we are
eliminating waste & providing hope. A no vote on this amendment won't stop
the destruction of blastocysts----it will simply prevent them from being put
to good use.

3) The people who argue against this amendment are almost uniformally
Republicans. Republicans are supposedly the party of small government. They
supposedly argue for little to no regulation of industry. Yet on this issue,
they want to regulate the research to the point of disallowing it. They are
hypocrites.

4) The people who argue against this amendment do so almost solely on the
basis of their religious beliefs. Let's not allow our nation's laws to be
further imbued with religious nonsense. Mythology belongs in church, not in
law. Every doctor I've seen speak to this issue has spoken on behalf of it.
All of the detractors I've listened to are affiliated with a church. They
are not scientists, researchers, or doctors. They are people who have spent
their lives memorizing one book. They are people who put people like Mark
Foley in office. They are people who attend the churches of people like Ted
Haggard. Do you trust these people?

5) My daughter could potentially benefit from this research. The
stroke she suffered has left her with a long list of maladies. Part of her
brain was destroyed. Some of her central nervous system was damaged. My wife
& I hold out hope that stem-cell research might one day allow her a normal
life. Whatever reasons you have for voting against this amendment, I urge
you to set them aside & think about people in your own family & circle of
friends. I believe my daughter is worth more than 150 cells in a petri dish. The
alternative for these 150 cells is for them to be be thrown away. Voting no
won't stop the creation of blastocysts----it just eliminates hope for people
like my own child.

While you're at it, do yourself a favor & vote the Republicans out of
office. We're collectively being held hostage by an administration run amuck
that only does things for their own economic benefit. They've started an
illegal war in Iraq, a war that is costing us lives & money, and for what?
So that Halliburton can improve the bottom line?

We need checks & balances in Washington. Vote Jim Talent out of office. If
you feel your religion prevents you from voting for Amendment 2 or for
anyone besides Republicans, I urge you to stay home tomorrow. It's just too
important.

1. other points about the lies...
I'm not even touching the "...and some women will even die" - but:

"The majority of these eggs will most likely come from poor college students who will sell them for research."

The amendment specifically BANS buying and selling of human eggs. ALL human eggs used MUST be voluntarily donated.

"It grants public money for private profit"

The hypocrisy of this one from the Repubs is galling...

"It is funded by elites: One wealthy couple has contributed 95% of
the funding"

This is true(sort of)...one couple, both CANCER SURVIVORS donated about $24 million to a cause they believe in.

2. I despise these people! Really. I do. I find myself wishing horrible ailments for them.
A little leukemia, a bit of parkinsons, a smidge of early onset alzheimers...let them reap the whirlwind. I'd like to get them to sign a contract promising to NEVER utilize these treatments when they are developed. Put them on a national database
Mrs Dasta? You need our treatment for MS? I see that you voted against Stem cell research in '06. I'm so sorry but we can't have you violating your convictions. NEXT!

Yes, I'm a terrible person. But they're so much worse. They want all of us to suffer...'cause that's all part of merciful gawd's plan!

3. .
Nice response. It has the same hope that I see in people like Michael J Fox.

From the other side, we only have hate and propaganda. I understand that some people object to it. That's fine. They don't need to benefit from it.
But I'm so against taking something away that seems to be the last hope for so many people.
