email from democrats.com about rove dirty tricks and robo calls
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 01:23 PM by seabeyond
Dear Xxxxx,

Karl Rove has been bragging for weeks about his "72-hour program" to swing the elections, which predict a Democratic takeover of Congress.

Now we know what it is: a dirty trick campaign using robocalls.

The calls are made to Democrats and swing voters at all times of day or night to make them angry. And they pretend to be from the Democrat ("Hello, I'm calling with information about Lois Murphy"). If you hang up, they call back 7-8 times, and each time you hear the Democrat's name, to get you angry at him or her. If you stay on, you get to hear a scathing attack on the Democrat.

Karl Rove's whole career has been devoted to dirty tricks. In 2002, his dirty trick was to force Congress to vote shortly before Election Day for the Iraq War based on two months of White House lies about WMD's and Al Qaeda ties. That dirty trick has cost the lives of 2,834 brave young Americans (16 so far in November), $2 trillion in debt to our children and grandchildren, and unleashed massive bloodshed in Iraq.

It's too late for legal action or even newspaper stories. If you receive one of these calls, write down the time and candidate and call every radio and TV show you can and urge everyone listening to vote against the disgusting Republican dirty tricksters. And forward this email to everyone you know so they aren't fooled by Karl Rove's dirty trick.

Let's make this Karl Rove's LAST campaign by voting ALL Republicans out of office.

1. Governor Dean should hold a press conference to talk about these dirty...
tricks. That is the only way we could get this information out before tomorrow.

2. So Rove's 72 hour plan is annoying robotic lies?
Jesus, what an ass. I hope he goes down in a big way. We need to run national ads on this tactic in the future.

10. Take action
You can complain to the FCC if you think the calls are illegal, as some Murphy supporters have done. (202-418-1440, phone; 202-418-0232, fax.)

Or you can do what I briefly considered yesterday: Send the NRCC your own robocalls telling it to STOP IT!

Try www.voiceshot.com - 12 cents a call, no minimum. The NRCC's number is 202-479-7000.

http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/news/local/15898729.htm

Look at what the vermin say about this:

In the past week alone, FCC records reflect $22,119 for anti-Murphy phone-bank expenses, said NRCC spokesman Ed Petru.

If the robocalls cost a dime, which is a high estimate, that would be 220,000 calls right there.

Petru said the agency wouldn't be spending its money on robocalls if they weren't working.

"We don't think there's such a thing as an overinformed voter."

15. I can't help but be amused here.
The Kerry campaign did EXACTLY the same thing in 2004 during the Iowa Caucus and the New Hampshire primaries, callers saying they were from the Dean campaign calling selected Democrats repeatedly from 1:00 to 3:30 am. All kinds of excuses from the establishment Dems here at DU as to why that happened. I can't help but be amused that these SAME people are so incensed that it's being done to them this time around. You would have thought they would have seen it coming. I did.

17. I did back when it was happening
hundreds of calls to the Dean campaign offices from very pissed off voters saying they were going to vote for someone other than Dean (usually Kerry) because they did not appreciate being called by the Dean campaign at 1:00 am. Problem is, we didn't have anyone on phone banks at those hours. Long story short, a little sleuthing found the calls were coming from Kerry supporters AND it was an organized effort -- not just from some overzealous campaigners. LOTS of dirty tricks like that from the Kerry campaign -- especially in Iowa.

18. seeing how i so often see the whole kerry thing more than misrepresented
and i have not heard of kerry doing this to dean and pretty informed, i would need some kind offact or link. so be amused that people may be outraged by repugs doing not only this, but focusing on blacks in tennesse and telling them if they voted inprimaryfor ford they dont have to vote again, and in nm focusing on the mexicans givingthem the wrong polling places..... laugh away
