My VA carry concealed permit came in handy yesterday.
First of all, let me state that I am NOT a gun nut. I am in favor of several forms of gun control. Anyone who thinks they need an AK-47 for any civilian purpose has never seen a treeline erupt in green tracers headed their way. I have yet to actually excercise the right conferred on me by the permit, but I obtained it several weeks ago because I don't trust the criminal cabal currently posing as an administration; and I don't put it past them to employ a variety of fraudulent techniques in an attempt to impose a quasi-dictatorship. Couple that with the brownshirt mentality of freepers and others of their ilk, and I opted to cover my bases.
So, how did it come in handy? I was canvassing for the Webb campaign in Northern Virginia and encountered a gentleman who told me that while he agrees with much of what Jim has to say, he fears that "the Democrats will take my guns". (Whether or not this guy should own guns is not germane to the post, I am willing to utilize every tool in the toolbox to get Felix Allen out of the Senate.) So I showed him my permit and asked, "Would I be missing the Redskins-Cowboys game working for a man who wanted to take this away from me?" We continued to talk, and I swear, I believe I flipped a vote.

4. I've had the same exact thing happen here in TN
I've pulled out my concealed carry permit at least 6 or 7 times and swayed a vote in the process. That's one issue that has gone by the wayside here - all of my fellow campaign workers refer all gun related questions to me.

24. Hey...
When some of us DEM's aren't canvasing for voters, we're out on the shooting range. You can spot us, we are the responsible gun owners. A group of us were meeting at a friend's house and before it ended-we were shooting off smokeless powder from a gun he had make. We had to close the doors and windows so as not to frighten the neighbors. Yeah, we're easy to spot.

21. You used the "N" word.
"Anyone who thinks they need an AK-47 for any civilian purpose has never seen a treeline erupt in green tracers headed their way".

Sorry if you've had a distasteful experience in the past, but why it should tarnish your opinion as to what anyone elses needs may or may not be?

Never mind the fact that you're probably referring to encountering full-auto fire from a genuine AK-47
(as opposed to the civilian legal semi-auto version).

Anyhow, congratulations on obtaining your CCW license... you never know when you might "need" it.

27. You know what, this is really sad.
I wonder how many Americans agree with the Democrats on the majority of issues but vote R over one single wedge issue (like guns) that's not even reality based to begin with. What a sad situation.

And Kudos to you for being in the right place and having the presence of mind do and say what you said. Bravo. -- One voter at a time.

Falling for the "assault weapon" bait-and-switch is arguably one of the biggest mistakes the party has made in decades, IMHO.

31. A friend of mine is running for the state Senate
here in Washington state (Yvonne Ward), and she's gotten that remark when doorbelling herself. "All you Democrats are gun grabbers!" to which Yvonne always responds that she is herself a gun owner. One fellow refused to believe it - until Yvonne went to her truck and got her handgun to show him. The fellow is now a supporter of hers. ;-)

(NC CCW permit holder here...)

Anyone who thinks they need an AK-47 for any civilian purpose has never seen a treeline erupt in green tracers headed their way.

Actual AK-47's are VERY tightly controlled in the United States, and possession of one without government authorization (BATFE Form 4) is a 10-year Federal felony. That's been Federal law for 72 years, under the Title 2/Class III provisions of the National Firearms Act. If anybody tells you we need to "ban AK-47's," they are trying to sell you a bait-and-switch.

40. Another reason to have a wide tent for gun owners in the Democratic party
I am thoroughly in support of concealed weapons permits for crime victims whose perps are out on parole and have threatened them. I also think there are other good reasons for them, including those that you mentioned. I am no gun nut and do not own a gun, but I support the whole Bill of Rights.
