Are You On The "Do Not Call" List But Are Still Getting Republican Calls?
If you are call your state's Attorney General. My wife just did and they are looking into it now to see if they can stop the calls from being made here in West Virginia.

I don't have a link but here is the beginning of an AP story:

"CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The National Republican Congressional Committee agreed to stop placing automated telephone calls to New Hampshire residents on the federal do-not-call list, a state official said.

The committee voluntarily agreed Sunday to stop calling homes on the registry after a citizen complained to the state attorney general's office, which then spoke with the GOP group's lawyer in Washington.

Under state statute, political campaigns are allowed to contact people on the do-not-call list, but cannot use automated recordings."

1. Political and charitable groups can ignore the national Do Not Call List
The list and the laws dealing with it apply only to commercial solicitations (ie sales calls) from companies you have not done business with in the last 366 days. Non commercial calls such as political pitches, donation begs, etc., and sales calls from companies with whom you have recently done business, are exempt from having to observe the DNCL.

2. You haven't heard about the Republicans' robocalls, have you?
They're piling calls with vaguely pro-Democratic messages onto DNCL phones, hoping callers will be annoyed with Dems for overcalling them. Oh, er, "allegedly."

4. It doesn't matter
The calls are not illegal. Slimy, yes.

6. Those violate state law, not the national DNCL
The original poster started out by mentioning being on the Do Not Call List. The federal laws which govern the DNCL do not apply to political organizations. Ergo, political organizations who call people are not violating the DNCL.

Many states, however, prohibit the use of auto-dialers. But such laws have no bearing on whether or not a particular number is on the DNCL.

3. New Hampshire has a state law that bans political calls
to people on the Do Not Call list. When confronted with that fact, Republicans calling NH said it didn't apply to them. Did King George pass a new edict?

7. That depends on how the law is written
Very likely, it applies only to calls originating within New Hampshire. If the calls are coming from, say Vermont which has no such law, the call is legal. Applying the laws of one state to actions technically taking place in another state tends to be a very iffy thing.

10. Ours is too busy leaking information to O'Reilly
and is only concerned with stomping out legal abortions in Kansas.

11. I will SEE you and raise you...
Our Attorney General is most likely sitting in Ken Blackwell's office, or they are having an early supper at Lindey's or something.

I am SURE Jim Petro will help stop these calls here in Ohio.

13. You win
I give. At least ours is on his way out. He's had 2 former ex-AGs (both Republicans) endorse his Democratic opponent last week. One of the former AGs quit Kline's campaign (very publicly) a month before the endorsement because he was uncomfortable with Kline's campaign tactics.

Also, Phil Kline (former state rep) endorsed Paul Morrison (D) over incumbent AG Phill Kline (R) (the extra "l" is for loony). That confused some people.
