As the torch is passed
and our government shows once again it can weather the winds of change, I think back to more innocent times. Times when we weren't afraid. When fear was not pushed at us the way you force pills down a dog's throat. To the days the Americans were the good guys, above things like torturing, adhering always to the law, to common decency. I wonder if it will ever come back? Or will we continue to meet the planes at Dover and bring home our children to bury under the motto "fight them there so we don't fight them here." Will we continue to hear thinly veiled hate (self hate, it now appears) ring out from so many prosperous pulpits?

I know that the old days always look a lot better than they really were, but our democracy is wounded and bleeding and the rest of the world just backs away in distrust.

I pray..really pray...that the people the torch is passed to do not let us down. That they make us proud again. That we once again say "the only thing we have to fear is fear, itself" and that we mean it. It's time for the good guys in the white hats to come in on the horses now. I just hope it isn't too late and that they can stay in the saddle.

Grannie...rocking slowly tonight in a cloudy North Florida

2. I keep thinking back to 1992, the joy and optimism I felt
knowing we were finally over the long twelve-year reign of Republicans. I was overjoyed -- even though I was totally underestimating how quickly things were about to improve.

3. As the torch is passed...
any one would look good in compasrison to these Bushites! I am not overly optimistic about the future. Judging by past history neither party seems to provide any real alternative to the impending NEW World Order. Let's not forget the role that Clinton played in getting GATT and NAFTA signed.

I don't know... I see two years of deadlock ahead.

4. It was 1958 and we cleaned the Republican's clock
that was my first time working in an election. Two years later we elected JFK and I voted for the first time.
