heads up to republican Lieberman voters |
|
Y'all think you are "punishing" dems by voting for him, instead of "your" guy Schlessinger?
Well think again.. Ole Holy Joe says he's going to remain a loyal democrat, which means he will be voting against many of your pet projects.
Ole Joe's well known to us.. he's a brown-noser, but his name still has a D next to it.
I doubt that he will actually be your new Zell..
and then there's this.
His little escapade just may have made him a more powerful senator than before.
Progressive dems don't like him all that much, but once the election is past, they willl welcome him back into the fold, and if he ends up being the 51st vote, you can bet that he will be welcomed warmly..
So go ahead..
Vote for Joe..
We are not crazy about the guy, but hey.. a majority is a majority, and if it keeps Cheney's snarly face out of the senate, we'll be fine with that :)

1. I think once inside the polling booth that some of those repukes who |
|
support Lieberman will have second thoughts and vote for their candidate. Just a hunch.

2. Lieberman's not going to turn his back on things that have been |
|
important to him for 30 years - decent wages, decent housing... all that stuff that makes Rethugs roll their eyes... you know, safety nets - general welfare stuff...

4. True. He'll tax and spend with the best of 'em |
|
He'll also try to take your guns away from you, and of course since he's the wrong religion, he's going to hell

8. Which is precisely why the next 2 years will be important |
|
If we manage to take back the senate, there needs to be some serious consensus-building meetings .. We must now hold the gains and add to it in 2 years. If we can somehow get to that magic number SIXTY, and buiild on it, we can finally get this train back on the tracks :)
and it takes the importance off ONE senator..

6. Your point? The party won't expel him. |
|
So why's CNN inaccurate here? Speaking as no friend of CNN. But if the party won't lift a finger...

10. You're dreaming. He was not expelled. He just lost a primary. |
|
There was an attempt to expel him for running as a non-Democrat and the party official in charge of registration of Democrats in CT turned it down flat.

I didn't see a proclamation that expelled him from the party.
While I don't trust LIEbermann, I heard Schumer claim that he's got Joementum's word that he will remain a Democrat and gave the impression there will be Democrats in the Senate keeping his feet to the fire. Of course, all this depends on if Joe becomes the swing vote (what a terrible thought). If Democrats win control, he'll "weathervane" and not want to piss of leadership by going off the reservation too often (plus his votes will be closely scrutinized). If the GOOP wins, we're back to where we have been where the GOOP will wedge not just LIEbermann but other "moderate" Democrats like Salazar and Nelson...and if it's Liebermann' fault that the Democrats lose the Senate, there's going to be an outcry to strip him of chairmanships and senority.
While I'd love to see Lamont pull off this election, I'm prepared for the worst, not the best on election day.

9. If he wins, will it be 'counted' as a D win for control of the Senate purposes? |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 05:20 PM by Lex
So that the Dems get to be in charge of the committees and set the agenda, etc?

11. Technically there would be TWO (I) senators |
|
him and Sanders, but they would caucus with the dems.. just as jeffords did.
The only thing that pisses me off is that if Holy Joe's the 51st vote, he WILL "sell to the highest bidder" for favors.
You can bet that if he ends up being #51, he will want to claim his seniority and demand a chairmanship.. If he's denied, don;t put it past him to jump ship and get that same chairmanship from the republicans
