Just got a call TODAY telling me that my polling place was changed (in PA).
It was from PA Victory '06, so I know it's a legit Dem organization, but don't you think it would have been wise to let people in this area (Coatesville, suburb of Philadelphia) know about the change sooner than this?

1. Don't you think you should verify it's true first?

2. Are you sure the caller ID can't be faked?
I'd double check on that info if I were you.

4. Please check with your state officials -
how do you know the call was indeed from PA Victory 06? The caller might have falsely used that name. I hate to sound cynical, but I'd check with the secretary of state's office to make sure.

5. I just got the final locations for my county this afternoon and
some of the polling places had in fact changed. That said, double check your polling place before you believe the call. They may have said they were one organization and in fact been another.

6. Yes
Usually you get a written notice a month or so before.

At least, that's the way it's been where I live.

11. you're not the only one who's received a call like that
Maybe you should call your local TV stations to ask them to report on either the new polling place OR the fact that somebody is lying about the location change.

My first thought is that it's bogus and criminal. A legitimate organization wouldn't call you the DAY BEFORE with news like this.

15. Call your county election folks.
I received my "official" polling place postcard a couple of weeks ago in the mail. I would never trust a phone call telling me to not go there.

16. PLEEEEZ call this in to the media!
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 05:58 PM by bobbolink
I wish we had been cultivating "friendly" journalists--these stories need Big and WIde coverage.

Yes, call the Dem hotline, and any others, but pleeeeez also call the media, and remind others to do so.

Stamp your feet if you have to. Tantrums get more attention than silent compliance. :hi:

Thanks for reporting this--grab a megaphone!

come to think of it... maybe you and some of your friends can quickly make signs, and maybe even canvas neighborhoods where this may be a problem?

Such a great way to suppress the vote!

17. According to the county Department of Voter Services, it's legit.
I got there from the League of Women Voters website, and it says it was updated on October 20. I can actually see the logic in this change, as I know where it is, and the parking lot is much bigger, and I'm assuming there's room for more voters (small fire station vs. union hall).

21. Also here in PA, my parents were notified by mail of the change
Don't believe anything via phone call (yes, caller ID can be modified)at least with mailyou have some physical evidence. For my 85 y/o parents, it's no big deal, one mile this way or that. Not the same story for someone trying to get their vote in before work. FYI this change in Westmoreland Co makes sense from a technical viewpoint because the space for the old lever machines isn't needed and the new location is more environmentally friendly to electronic equipment. They were also notified a few weeks ago, there is no legitimate reason for late notification. I am no friend of the CO BOE, but I don't think she is deliberately trying to thwart democracy.
